I think Robert Smith and Lol Tolhurst were born and initially brought up in Horley although Smith's family moved to Crawley, so technically, their roots are in Surrey. But still a bloody fine band, perhaps the best from the Sussex/Surrey border?

Fair enough. I didn't realise the intricacies of the Surrey/Sussex border, having spent my Sussex time by the Sea.

Saw him with them at the Dome. Siouxsie without doubt the scariest woman ever in music.

My best mate's dad used to do photography for them and was an old friend of Porl Thomson. When we were in sixth form they announced a Wembley gig and my best friend and i discussed the likely hood of getting back stage passes. I was a huge Cure fan at the time and was beside myself with excitement at getting the chance to see them and maybe even meet them.

He took one of the most interesting girls in the sixth form instead of me.

I learned a life lesson

MY Cure records were borrowed and never returned from said friend and i was always told that they were given to him direct from the band. Although i have no way of verifying this but Boys Don't Cry, The Top and Kiss Me hold a special place in my record collection just in case this was true.

Used to play football with Robert Smith for Sussex schools. Good little winger before he went all mascara and big hair.

I loved The Cure but felt that they went off once RS decided to do his pop song trilogy (Lets Go to Bed etc). What a pile of tripe they were. 17 seconds, Faith and Pornography are magnificent albums. After that I felt they were rather hit and miss - lots of good songs, lots of crappy ones too. Porl Thompson was/is a fantastic guitarist though. So judging by how many bad songs a band did, I feel that The Smiths were far superior as they hardly had a bad one at all.

And for goodness sakes chaps, it is A Forest, not The Forest. A Forest. A. Sake.

I used to see (Easy) Cure at the Rocket in Crawley regularly and was friends with Paul (pre "Porl") Thompson's sister who now lives in Brighton. Paul went to Thomas Bennett but the others went to St Wilfred's. Great band.
