Given yesterdays lesson and given the ridiculous amount of cash needed to compete in the Premiership, I'd be more than happy for a few solid years in the Championship

Mostly just wages, the problem is this, is it now irreversable ? Can we start to drop players wages in this country without losing all the "better" players, I dont know the answer but is English football the highest payed?

how the hell have they managed that? they always seemed like a well run club...not spending a large amount on players, selling players for large profit

can't think of many high earners they'd have.......while i doubt they get much income (with low crowds, low merchandise sales etc.) you'd imagine the money they get from being in the premiership would be enough to sustain them

scary stuff!

Surely the simplest way to stop this bollocks is to slap a wage cap down, say 70% of turnover?

As a 'whole' the Premier League pays the highest in world football. It's reversible but will mean the break up of the Premier League into two divisions. The Top 6 will form a European or even World Super League with clubs from other nations.

yep i agree....can't see it happening though

the premier league clubs wouldn't vote for it as they'd start losing players to la liga/serie a etc.

one way would be to slap it on EVERY league in europe, but then clubs would worry about losing players to non-european leagues

Now you know why certain chairmen wanted no relegation from the PL or a 2 league PL. In their greed they've got themselves into deep debt and without tv money the whole game's broke.

Agreed - the sooner the better for this I reckon.

Wigan's turnover was £50M.They received £41M for TV rights from the Premier League which I assume is included in their turnover figure. There average gate for home matches was 17,000.

Good post. Championship clubs get about £1 million according to Wiki.

Why would we have to break up the Prem? (I always thought that was the master plan but feel it will ruin football even more) I mean if we pay alot higher than anyone else surely if we just feel in line with everyione else in Europe,s.America, then it would be an even playing feild with regards to wages and we might not have so much debt and clubs in trouble

That's only £9m from non-TV revenue - that's gate money, merchandise, sponsorship, catering, advertising etc. That's really poor. I bet Brighton get more than that.

And FFS it's THEIR average gate
