My Coronavirus app has told me to quarantine for 3 days, presumably to do with going to an Indian restaurant last Saturday.

Happy Christmas everyone.

2 bits today;

1. Trials of antibody cocktail underway in UK which could be available by March if approved, aiming at stopping severe Covid-19 once someone tests positive.

2. New dominant variant has been found in France from North Africa which does appear to be a milder strain. There is a link to a pre-print study posted on Reddit, will post on here if I can figure out how to get the formatting across.

Oh, also 3.7m vaccinations now worldwide - this number is going to fly up soon - and Bahrain has vaccinated nearly 3 of every 100 people in their population now. Some of the small, rich countries may be the first to give us a guide as to how many need vaccinating to see case rates really slow down.

Good stuff, thanks, needed that.

Be fantastic if that strain became the worldwide dominant form.

Oh, and happy Christmas to you too!

Hope all Good News Threaders had a good Christmas, I've nothing new to add, just eternal thanks.

My wife's mum and step dad came over for dinner, they got to spend the day with their grand kids and open presents together, first time they'd seen each other since September, only the third time this year, I'll see my parents when this is over. Stay strong, we can get through this.

This sounds very positive. Oxford hopeful of shortly showing an efficacy around the 90-95% range, after further trials/studies of differing doses.

Many reports of various EU countries having received their initial doses of the Pfizer vaccine prior to beginning their vaccinations tomorrow.

The Slovakian Minister for Health has stated that Slovakia could complete vaccinations within 3 months.

Looks like - with a rerun of the half/full dose trial - they’ve managed to hit 95% efficacy on the Oxford vaccine.

News reports this morning suggesting it’ll start being rolled out on January 4th (approval sometime this week). Brilliant news if so.

Phone my elderly and jolly relative in Devon for a natter yesterday and she was pleased to tell me that she and her sister had recently received their initial vaccinations. She thought that it warranted at least a badge or even a "...I've been done..." hat.

I hope they're not suppositories for administering the vaccine, if they are, needs must.

Mail article suggesting we’re aiming to vaccinate 15m by end Feb and that restrictions may begin to be rolled back from that point.

That is a seismic game changer if it happens, one giant leap in eradication of Covid-19

Normally reliable sources saying the Oxford vaccine will be approved tomorrow, one of their bosses has been in the papers today saying that the ‘errors’ that were made with the dosing in parts of the trials have led to them being able to pinpoint the perfect dosage that will lead to the most efficient usage of the vaccine.

As Mellotron said a few posts ago, Rishi Sunak also sounded remarkably upbeat in an interview I read in the paper today, there was talk of having nearly 15m people vaccinated by February, which would mean restrictions wouldn’t be needed. I’m guessing he probably knows the news is good on the vaccine otherwise he wouldn’t have come out with that.

Light at the end of the tunnel is getting much closer now.
