Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla says company has crossed safety milestone for Covid-19 vaccine, EUA submission is now imminent

Pfizer won’t say when they’ll send their Covid-19 vaccine to the FDA, except that it’s going to be very soon.

Speaking at New York Times and STAT summits Tuesday, CEO Albert Bourla said that, in their Phase III trial with BioNTech, they have already passed the minimum two-month follow-up the agency requires that developers reach to obtain emergency use authorization. With news last week that an interim analysis showed the vaccine was “over 90% effective,” that would appear to give Pfizer and their partner BioNTech most of the data required to achieve the first US OK for a Covid-19 vaccine.

“We are preparing now for submissions,” Bourla said at the Times conference.

It looks like the first Coronavirus vaccine being approved and going into arms is now a matter of weeks away, not months.

I'm still hopeful as an NHS front line worker I will receive a jab before xmas, even if the follow up 2nd one may well be new year.

As soon as I hear anything concrete I will of course let you guys know.

you are fast becoming my favourite poster. Short, clear, informative posts about whats happening HERE, everything I have read of yours is shown a bit later in official data. Several times members of my family have said "'ive heard COVID Wards full in Brighton" or similar, and I've mentioned your comments.

Keep up the great work,
Thank you

Thanks, I'm only really posting the weekly updates we get from the Chief Exec, but glad they are appreciated.

I do here and see other things on my travels with my job around the hospital but generally stick with facts.

I do have other info but would not want to pass on info that may not hold up to exact timescales etc...

My missus is in line for getting the jab as well at RSCH as she is a FLW. As soon as you all get the green light to get it done, & it starts getting rolled out, it will take a huge weight off a lot of peoples shoulders - and we will finally know that its "out there".

The weekly info given out to the NHS staff has been invaluable tbh. My elderly parents are stuck at home like most others, and whenever we talk to them they bring up what they've heard through the media etc, which they get worried by massively. My wife has been brilliant at reassuring them with the real facts and figures from the local area, explaining things in a calm, simple way to put their minds at ease. Its been really helpful to me as well, otherwise I think I may have been suffering with a lot more anxiety over the whole thing. So thanks again to Marshy for getting the latest news from Brighton up on here for everybody to see. Im sure it makes a big difference.

Indeed.

Vaccinations getting rolled out will mark the very beginning of the end.

Two metre needle though

And on a point of pedantry it goes in the shoulder, not the arm. But thankfully it’s administered by a trained medical bod and not a VAR referee....otherwise you’d be there all day as they deliberate as to what’s the arm and what’s the shoulder.

You and Marshy should be given NSC honours for the fantastic posts throughout this crisis.

Or letters after your member names, I propose NSCDSO

Indeed. This thread joins the Official Running Thread and Bell Cheeses at Work, and more recently Craziest things to happen to the Albion as my “go to”’threads.

It has been the most uplifting thread in the past 8 months. BBC take note.

Well done Bozza for initiating

Agree - it's become the first thread I look for every time I log-on.

Hopefully.

Where is this graph from?
One of the stats guys on Twitter posted it, so perhaps not a reliable source, hence the question mark, but any little nugget of positivity is good in my book.
I know it has been coming down slowly, so I guess it’s not beyond the realms of possibilities that it has fallen below one. #fingerscrossed

Yeah but for us they're REAL updates, not agenda-driven or politicised, so they are immensely appreciated - huge thanks from me.

Anyone else been accepted onto a vaccine trial?

I'm starting with Novavax on Monday (it's being run by Bradford University). Seems a bit late given they will monitor me for a year but don't fully know how it works. I have quite a few questions lined up!

I’m on the Novavax trial too, in Wrexham though. Had one jab and next one is in a week’s time. No side effects at all except a sore arm, although it’s only 50/50 whether you get the vaccine or a placebo.

Is it 50/50? My understanding was they did more vaccine at a later stage as they already know their placebo side effects, so to speak.

From the agreement you should have been sent:

In this study, the active vaccine will be compared to a placebo. A placebo is a substance that looks like the active vaccine but does not have any vaccine product in it; the placebo in this study contains only water and sodium chloride (salt). If your study doctor says you can be in the study, you will be assigned by chance (like flipping a coin) to either active vaccine or placebo as an injection into the muscle in your upper arm (the deltoid muscle) on Day 0 (the day on which you receive the first injection of study vaccine), and on Day 21. You have a 50% chance of receiving the active vaccine. A computer program will randomly decide which treatment you will receive. You will not know what treatment group you are in until after the study ends.
