£8.60 for a 2d film or £11.50 for a 3d film? Are you having a bloody laugh! I wanted to go and see Thor after hearing some good reviews from people at work but i think i'll def wait to rent it at that price.

am i being cheap or do people agree with me on this?

for a group of 4 thats £34.40/£46 or £4 from blockbuster.. hmmm.

surely the cinema experience isn't worth that much more!

Totally agree and you are correct to object those prices.
We were paying £35 - £40 just to get into in. Then the kids declare their love for Pick 'n' mix and Super sized drinks, bang goes another £20.

I discovered Bognor cinema £2.50 2D or (if feeling flush) £3.50 3D even at weekends. Plus a Tesco express down the round = change from £20

Fill ya boots but get there early as it does fill up quick for latest releases.

Get a Cineworld Unlimited pass. £15 a month. If you see just two films a month you see a saving. Sorted. You pay £1.50 extra for 3D films, that's all.

Bloody hate this 3D trend. Saw the trailer for the new Conan movie which I WAS interested in watching until I saw all the "HEY KIDS! LOOK! 3D!" moments in it.

I just don't get the appeal.

I saw Thor in 3D and it was a waste of money. Though its £7.20 and £9.20 at Cineworld near me. Wait for DVD.

I Cineworld Unlimited it. It's a strange card to hold as it administers a sense of financial freedom inside you. I CAN SEE ANYTHING NOW, i think, FOR A VERY REASONABLE PRICE. Of course what i can really see is anything completely mainstream and rather often a bit rubbish. I use the card a lot, and do so at least a little thankfully, but always see quality elsewhere. Quality, however, doesn't always come at a huge cost. Today i am going to my local cinema in Hackney to see a Bertolucci doublebill for £9. And i plan to get two tickets for a pair of russian classics at the BFI which combined cost £13, with a free cocktail thrown in for good measure. There's often vouchers going for slightly cheaper cinema at the Odeon too.

Ive never been amazed by any 3D film. I prefer a really well shot film, than to sit there with those glasses on and a narrower view.

I take my kids to the Duke of York's for the Saturday morning cinema regularly - just £4 for the three of us - it's a bargain.

I hope the current trend for 3D tv and cinema is just a phase. A bit like that weird and unnecessary concept of widescreen television. Oh.

I thought that this was going to be a thread grumbling about people who rustle sweet wrappers, slurp cola or talk through films...I am not too bothered at paying a reasonable sum to watch a film, as long as the experience isn't spoiled by people who are doing any of the aforementioned.

Thats why I joined the Odeon Premier CLub thingy, sure I pay £8 (then drink/popcorn on top!!) everytime but at least it gradually works towards a free film. Agree though, it is too expenseive for just a one off.

I have a Cineworld Unlimited Card and get very good value out of it. But, if I ever have to stop getting it or they stop the scheme I will not go to the cinema much anymore. The single ticket prices are ludicrous, especially considering you're often going to be watching a fairly average film. As for 3D - it's shit. Not only because it makes an already expensive ticket a step too far but it also pretty much ruins films for me - Thor would have been good but as soon as it's in 3D you can't actually see what's going on, and for some reason it just doesn't look right to me. Sadly I think we're probably stuck with it as the studios will aggressively keep releasing 3D prints - they and the cinemas like the extra £2.50 per ticket too much.

If there's the option, i tend to 2D it. I saw Jaws 3D in the mid-80s and it's pretty much the same "trick" they played then, and equally unspectacular for anyone even approaching adulthood. Gimmicks are generally there to make he strong point that there is nothing below the surface. I'll go and see Scorsese's 3D extravaganza when it's out, as i am sure he'll play with it and use it as more than just a tool to make a chewed-off head float toward you or a cannibalistic canine sprint in your direction. But i hope it dies out then. A new fad will be reborn, i am sure, and the studios will jump ship together, perhaps making us pay extra for those mildly-electric chairs they shocked people with in cinemas in the 50s.

I thought about the unlimited card. Although some months I just wouldn't go but then I guess other months I'd go like 4 times. Might have to invest! And cheers for the 3d feedback. Only other film I've seen in 3d was avatar.

All of this! 3D is a gimmick...I have an Unlimited card at Cineworld and it's great...also means you take more gambles on what films you see and can come out thinking it's one of the best films you've seen in ages. No date/time restrictions on the card and great value.

all films are online free.....cinemas will go bust in the next few years....good, serving silly size drinks and popcorn at nasty prices - deserve all they get.
