Many years ago...probably 30 years, we used to look forward to going to the bank holiday market on the race hill. There were always many stalls selling fruit and veg, cheeky chappie Del Boy characters who sold any old stuff and of course the obligatory meat sellers, turning the place into a comic music hall type banter filled arena...I m not charging £30.... Not even £20.....give me a tenner for all this meat and I will throw in 10 sausages...you know the sort of thing.

Today, we went up there and it was a horrible experience. Almost every stall was bring run by Asian characters, flogging fake designer gear...crappy dodgy electrical goods...and not a craft stall to be seen. No vegetable stalls, cake stalls or meat stalls...no banter apart from an violent argument between two burka wearing women over a fake Ralph Lauren tracksuit which they both wanted and everyone looked on as they came to blows.

For those of you who have been overseas this year, especially Europe, you will have come across Africans with their blankets full of fake gear that are constantly on the move due to police wandering about. Why the police and or council officials not depending on the place confiscating this fake bollocks. I even saw fake brighton shirts being knocked out at £10 each! So they are ripping our club off too!

It's always been full of fake gear ..... just more obvious now. I remember Haywards Heath Sunday market with a fondness.

More than a hint of xenophobia about this post, Dave.

I think what he was trying to say is that it's fine if you knock out rip off gear as long as you have good banter.

Yeah, things were so much better back then. And Love Thy Neighbour was on the TV - great comedy.

'Asian characters'...'Africans with their blankets full of fake gear'...

Bloody Hell, you are Alf Garnett, aren't you?

What!! But hang on Bushy says we don't any of these types round Brighton? Just who is telling lies here!!!!???? I guess from his leafy Haywards Heath he doesn't see the influx of nomadic wrapping paper/80's poster/ mirror / phone case/ luggage/ phone card shops that move along as soon as the tax man/ immigration officers get wind that litter Brighton & Hove?

Yes, yes I am.

So you went today did you?

I was reflecting how it was then to now, I couldn't give a **** if they are white, black green or purple. I thought it was illegal to sell fake goods so blatantly.

Did you not understNd that from my post?

I understand what is being said here. It's not a racist reference but an observation that every other stall is being overseen by an asian. Back in the day, there used to be plant sellers(i'm very much into my garden)and stuff which you couldn't get in the local shops. Now it's just dodgy clothes. The only thing that has remained the same....is the rain on a bank holiday!

No, haven't been for years. Never liked it up there, and there are so many things that I'd prefer to do on a Bank Holiday.

But your post very clearly gives the impression that Asian or African market traders are somehow more dodgy than cheeky white 'comedians'. You specifically choose to define these people by their race. It would be impossible to defend yourself against an accusation of racism here.

Green? Purple? I really think we should draw the line somewhere.

Not really, Dave. You were reminiscing with glee about the Del Boy types but dislike today's Asian & African knock-off specialists?
What exactly were were we meant to understand?

It's not all bad Dave. If Nigel Farage ever needs a new copy writer you're a shoe in. Just email him a link to this thread,
