Would be the same as Goodfella assuming I was paid in Sterling and lived in the UK. Not quite as good as my old salary having been brought to zero taxation in the last budget here (and I still pay abo

I am I the only one who noticed Gordon Brown picking his nose and eating the bogeys live on TV during Prime Ministers Questions just minutes before he made the budget speech?

Good news for me - My £50 a year car tax will now cost only £35, I ditched my gas guzzling espace last year.

Bad News for me - Small companies corporation tax going up to 22%, there goes a big part of the tax loophole that means you are better off being a small ltd company than a self-employed bloke. Most peoples tax rate going down, mine going up. Oh, and a penny on a pint too.

wherever the money is
I might be wrong but the road tax increase depending on emmisions is only for cars registered after 2001 as they have the bands? Is this correct and if so what will the tax go up to if I drive something over a 1.4 and currently pay £175 per year?

Not exactly in same situation but I agree. We do our best, not looking for handouts but a f***ing break once in a while. Even if that break was decent rail service, decent leisure facilities, reasonable tax so that I could at least bear to pay for them.

Don't ever get married mate. I've got 2 kids that I see 40% of the time including them staying at my house. My ex-wife gets ALL the benefits and allowances and I pay her maintenance but not vice versa. She gets legal aid, free this, free that. And her family is f***ing wealthy beyond my dreams.....and I get f*** all.

SCR have just said that according to the Institute of Chartered Accountants a person earning £15k per year will be £69 worse off, a person earning £27k will be £72 better off and a person earning £43k per year would be £74 worse off.

So, although Gordon Brown will go on TV tonight saying how much he has lowered Income Tax to the lowest rate for 75 years the actual impact is virtually nill in most case, about £1.00 to £1.50 per week either way up or down.

e.g. I'm on about 26k and I've worked out that i'll be about £130 better off a year than I am now.

.

Not according to the Institute of Accountants because with the new rates of NI a person on £27k will be only£72 better off.

Apparently I'll be £19.02 per month better off.

The reduction of the basic rate will get the headlines while most people don't even know about the 10% rate anyway (I should know I'm an IFA) and the overall effect won't be that great as any tax he gives us back will just be taken in other ways from VAT, fuel duty or whatever.

I suppose it is consistent with trying to tax people based on their behaviour (i.e. CO2 emmissions etc) rather than purely on their income.

He's still an arse though.

On the joke front, I make Brown the clear winner over trying-too-hard Cameron this time.

And it was a lovely bit of showmanship, the way he delivered that final "oh, and another thing..." income tax cut, regardless of how it all looks in hindsight and closer analysis.
More James Brown than Gordon Brown - just needed Tony Blair to hand him his cape at the climax.

My wife has a people carrier.......with the new laws about children sitting in the front and 4 children aged 8 and under, we have no other choice. Thankyou very much Mr. Brown. The ONLY useful thing you ever did, was give give the control of interest rates to the Bank of England.
