The Brighton/Sussex +£4 a Pint Thread of Shame

NSC's Most Stalked
The first weekend out after the VAT increase to 20% made it even more expensive to drink in Brighton.

So where have you been that has been offering their costumers a pint in exchange for £4 or more

I'll kick things off with The Basketmakers

What pint was it for?

In the Black Lion I was charged £12.70 for a single vodka and coke, a guinness and a bottle of pear cider

Why should the pubs be shamed for increasing prices due to the VAT increase? What do you expect them to do absorb the costs so you can afford an extra shandy and end up going out of business?

Typical ignorant attitude in this country.

Ignorance?
As an example, if I pint cost £3.60 before it should only cost £3.67 now

I would agree on the VAT rise but it appears some pubs have increased their costs above that of the VAT rise. Also, if they want to stay in business then the breweries need to think carefully about their price model. I don't expect them to beat offie prices ( or even match them ) but when you can get 6 cans of premium lager for £5 pubs are not a very attractive proposition at £4+ per pint.

The pub I work at has put the price of all beers and lagers up by 10p a pint. The Vat increase is approximately 8p a pint, its simply easier for everyone (staff and punters) to have an increase in more user friendly numbers.

I don't think 'ignorant' is fair. The price of beer abroad or out of a can demonstrates how cheap it is to produce and highlights the profit margin and tax. I personally question your attitude of simply paying up without question.

I'm at a stage in my life where I won't pay those prices for beer (i've ditched my car (not literally) and cycle now, because I won't pay petrol prices either) What puzzles me is why some who'll post a moan on here won't be able to get their four quid out quick enough next weekend, while grumbling to his mate (who probably has to buy his own) about the price of a pint

sorry people, it takes two to set a price, the seller AND the buyer
