Probably one of the greatest Withdean nights as a capacity crowd was there to see Albion v Cheaterfield.

The northerners had been big spenders and had been romping away with the league until all the dirty deals came to light. They were deducted points, but not enough to prevent promotion yet on this night their claims to be the 'real' champions were shattered as Albion won 1-0 through a Danny Cullip goal

We were Champions, even without the points deduction, and it must have been a galling night for Chesterfield as the Championship was presented and Withers went wild.

An abiding memory were the many brown envelopes being waved amounst the crowd.

Great atmosphere at Withdean with all those brown envelopes being passed round the South Stand.

What a night! I was over in H/J, one of the two, and there were people JUMPING into the South Stand from the trees! At the very end, with the pitch invasion going on. Amazing scenes, what a night.

Great memories - the large brown envelope was my hard work - spent the afternoon in the garden making that on my birthday - great night against the cheating northern bastards !! - that was when Withdean was electric !!

Time don't half fly !

It does show that Withers can have an atmosphere, we just need something to cheer.

Night games are always better though.
