That's what we have currently, having conceded only 6 goals in 10 games...

Albion 6
Newcastle 7
Huddersfield, Ipswich 8
Brentford, Birmingham, Derby 9

At the other end of the pitch, only 9 teams have scored fewer than Albion's 12 goals. Reading (11) and Fulham (9) are the only sides in the top half to have had more difficultly finding the back of the net than we have.

After 10 games last year, we had scored 14 and conceded 8 giving us the same +6 goal difference that we currently have.

I'm not sure why I've written any of this however.

To highlight the well known fact that our defence is excellent, our midfield quality - same as last year- but with a classy goal scorer we would romp this league. Frustrating isn't it?

Would. CH try a defensive partnership of LD, CG and SD, if we did have issues with major injuries at RB and LB.
Do not know how it would change our team balance or defensive record, but maybe worth thinking about?

This is a good sign. Middlesbrough had by far the best defence in the league last year, followed by Burnley and Hull.

Very impressed with Duffy at the moment, both he and Dunk have been solid in the last few games. Not many teams can afford to leave a player of Goldson's ability on the bench, an embarrassment of riches at CB.

Also it sounded on the radio at least that Pocognoli had a reasonable game last night too, which is encouraging if true.

Since 2002 the teams that have conceded the fewest goals over a season have had a mean finishing position of 2.36.
The teams that have scored the most goals have had a mean finishing position of 2.56. Majorly skewed by Brentford last year.
