Metcheck adding the totals up go for 45cm on monday and tuesday!

Metcheck are never right. Their forecasts are always more extreme than anyone else's and always wrong.

Monday daytime - BBC news tonight showed significant snow for the Sussex Coast, and at the same time Kent, Normandy, Picardy, Belgium.

The damp channel air combining with the bitter temps.

Is MetCheck owned by the Daily Express?

Metcheck use raw GFS operational data, so it's prone to fluctuations.

The latest GFS ensemble shows 100% snow chances for Worthing for an entire 24 hour period from midnight Sunday, with 3x85% to follow.

It could be a lot of snow

I hope so.

The BBC website now showing very light snow, only for a few hours on Monday for Brighton.

It would be great, it turned into one of those South Downs and coastal towns big dumps.

Papa Lazarou. I realise the link is to RH, but as a rule of thumb, does sustained precipitation with a max air temp of just plus 1 or 2 Celsius almost always fall as snow?

It's all about the uppers, it could be -2c on the ground and still fall as rain if the uppers aren't at least -5c or colder. When you're looking at -10c (as we are here), you'll find it coming down as snow even if ground temps are +2/3c above freezing. Whether it lays is a different matter.

It's also to do with the Dew Point. As long as you have a sub zero dew point, it's possible to have falling snow with surface temps as high as 8c. In reality there are about 4 key indicators/measures that help to determine whether snow will fall, as opposed to rain.

How's it looking for my neck of the woods oh wise Sage of Sussex?

It looks like you will see some mainly light snow Sunday night as the front pushes south, and then you'll be on the northern edge of the system pushing in from the SW (that is possibly going to give Sussex a right dumping of the stuff), so the amount of snow will be much less, despite the very cold temperatures.

This is for roughly Bristol

There definitely appears to have been a Southwards correction of the low pressure by both ECM and GFS models. Which is concerning.

Tomorrow mornings update is going to be the best guide. That will be close enough to be realistic.

Quite a decent covering of snow here on the north Essex / Cambridgeshire border, and still falling quite steadily.
