That ball is swinging around like crazy, especially for Tongue and Anderson - no excuses to be made, these conditions are an absolute dream for a bowling attack exclusively of seamers.

I humbly disagree with their assessment. The bowling hasn’t been world beating, but the conditions couldn’t be better. As I say, if they get the line and length more consistent the swing will do the rest.

The ball hasn’t been swinging massively, it started swinging a little now the lacquer has come off, I expected more swing given the condtions, but it didn’t really matter because the England bowlers didn’t bowl the ball at the stumps enough, less that 6% of the balls in that session would have hit the stumps.

In those conditions you have you challenge the stumps and bowl the right length, we didn’t do that which is a surprise, I have a feeling England would have been 3/4 down against the Aussie attack in those conditions.

He’s been up around 88mph consistently - definitely a quick pace, his problem has been when he gets put away from his shorter ball. He drew a thick inside edge from Warner in a previous over when he gets his line and length right.

They must be licking their lips, no blaming the conditions, got to get the line and length right and take our chances. Pope seems to be seen a specialist catcher but he’s pretty hopeless!!

Pope IS a specialist catcher - not at slip though - at short leg, where he is one of the very best in the game

Funnily enough, in the last match he was at short leg for long spells and was getting stick from the commentators for flinching and turning his back several times when (mishit) shots came his way.

Fielding at short leg is really easy from the commentary box.

The pace quoted on the television is measured out of the hand, the pitch doesn't make any difference.
There was a great bit in the Pakistan ODI series last year when they showed how Mark Wood's pace varied as the ball travelled down the pitch, it was leaving his hand at over 90mph and coming off the pitch at about the same speed the ball came out of Chris Woakes' hand.
High 80s on it's own won't shake up the best batters, you need a bit of skill to go with it, which why Anderson only became consistently successful from 2010 when he cut out almost all his bad balls and added the inswinger.
You could try being 6'7" as well, but I don't see him being able to add any extra height.
