I still think we'll get Hughton if we want him. In terms of Pulis, where in the article does it quote anyone from the Albion? It could just as easily have been guesses by the Argus or come from Pulis himself.

I agree re Hughton and I wouldn't be unhappy with that, unless it is in another weeks time and hence have wasted yet more time making a decision. You're right, there was no quote from the club and perhaps it did come directly from Pulis but I don't see why he would need to advertise the fact he was talking to clubs as he's pretty in demand at present anyway. It was a definitive statement from the Argus so unlikely to just be guesses.

Oh for love of God, what's a matter with you lot? What do you want...a rush job just to get someone in the door in the hope they will do something in the January window? Most will surely moan about one of the current managers available being selected, everyone is already split on that, and most of the choices available are unrealistic. There are big premiership jobs available, likely more to come, so it seems unlikely we will be the first port of call. Secondly we are already too late for the January window unless the ground work has already been done.

The endless winging, the manager is gone, the head of football operations is gone. You've got what you want, we all now want the next move to be THE one...the one who gets us up in the next few seasons. That's not going to take a week or two to solve and there is no point in adding the extra constraint that they have to be English.

If we weren't in a relegation battle already that would be ok. To quote Danny Baker "we aren't flirting with relegation, we are sending it pornographic messages"
There is a limited number of candidates available at any time, We have a choice of either getting in a manager who can work with the existing squad or getting someone who will want to bring players in fast, we don't have time to waste getting someone in and that candidate should have been on the radar weeks ago.

If I thought that at the end of several weeks of deliberation and meetings we would end up with someone other than the last pickings after everyone else I would say fine we were doing the right thing but it looks like we are just going to employ another hopeful cheap gamble that won't work out again

Rather than reveal any tangible evidence of progression/regression in the appointment process, this actually sheds greater light on the journalistic impotence of the Argus.

Naylor seems to hedge more bets than Tony Bloom. It just seems another stream of platitudes to fill a white space on the website. I do appreciate the club is most likely stifling any hope of exclusive material, but in most cases it's probably best to refrain from publishing anything, than the blitz of non-stories.

Here's a translation:

1 Albion are taking their time over the appointment (translation: Albion haven't recruited anyone yet)

2 Albion focus on the 'right man' (as opposed to the 'wrong man')

3 Albion are working through a 'methodical selection process' (oh I see, so they're taking this seriously? Phew...)

5 Oh and they've quoted the odds from the bookies' websites.

To be fair to the "Argus" they do have to produce sensational copy on a near-daily basis. I wonder how many other Championship (or Premiership come to that) clubs generate so much day-by-day headlines.

Obviously Crawley are also giving them some copy but basically the "Argus" is and has been Albion-centric. Naylor obviously is told to make some speculation just when the management would probably like not to respond in order not to commit themselves. Result: platitudes.

Even if the club hadnt considered Hypia leaving Hughton obviously has as my son and I parked next to him at Ipswich could have been just going to a game near his home in Norwich if he still has it. It is possible he was scouting for one of our opponents but I think he thought our position would come up soon . He has been spotted at other games it has been reported.

Agree. I should have explained the 'impotence' is not 'incompetence' as the club is clearly not playing ball. And I feel sorry for Naylor having to recycle all this 'on demand' content when he has so little material to play with, hence the 'hedge-betting'. I'm just asking whether it's worth publishing these non-stories at all? If there is no 'news' content then I can't see who benefits: fans turn on Argus, Naylor probably feels miffed having to file it. It's got 0-0 written all over it....

That may be so but it shows that managers believed the job would soon become available so surely TB must have considered the option so a long application and selection process wouldnt be needed.
