SHOREHAM BY SEA
Roar regular Andy Bass joined Ady & Al for a review of 2017. From great days against Fulham and Sheffield Wednesday, through forgettable performances against Huddersfield and Nottingham Forest, to a sublime great free kick and, of course... April 17th 2017. And more besides. Plus Phil Shelley offers up a beauty of Shirt of the Year.

WARNING: May contain traces of positivity.

I've also written a few notes down as to why I think 2017 was the best year in the Albion's history. Up for debate, of course...

Another enjoyable program listened to whilst working....and thanks to continued support from your sponsor

This week's show was a treat for us.

Former Kilmarnock, Rangers, Manchester City and Brighton midfielder Gordon Smith joined Ady & Al in our makeshift studio in Worthing for a chat about his time starting in Scotland, before heading south to Brighton. Oh, and we touched on some hitherto unknown incident at Wembley in 1983.

After his playing career finished, Gordon became an administrator in Scottish and world football affairs, working alongside some of the great of the game. A true gentleman, articulate, funny and musical - Gordon was an absolute delight.

Phil Shelley's Shirt of the Week - is highly appropriate, and Gordon eventually got it...

"When I am a bit down, I go to YouTube and look at my Brighton goals. That cheers me up a lot, scored at the Amex at a good time for me..."

Andrea Orlandi is on the Albion Roar this week.

Three Albion Roar podcasts this week...

First up, with around a third of the season to go in the FA WSL2, Al swanned along to the Elite Football Performance Centre in Lancing to catch up with Albion Women's manager Hope Powell, and centre midfield enforcer Dani Buet for their views on the footballing philosophy at the club, the season so far, next season in WSL1, and women's football in England generally. And you can find out who the noisiest women's footballer is...

Next, joining Richard Parker in Auckland and Steve Longly in Sydney is all-too-brief Albion striker Lloyd 'Raise The Roof' Owusu, hero of the relegation escape of 2009/10. Find out how Lloyd ended up at Brighton, and how he forged a Statler & Waldorf partnership with his fellow spring chicken Gary Hart.

And the regular Albion Roar show will be with guest film-maker Louis Myles. Louis has a film coming out in New York this month - Kaiser! The Greatest Footballer Never to Play Football. Apparently the best way to describe the film's story is here... https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...ry-of-carlos-kaiser-footballs-greatest-conman

Louis also has another film coming out in July about the truly psychotic Florentine 'game' of Calcio Storico. I've seen the trailer - Jesus...

Two new shows for you this past weekend...

Albion Fan of the Year popped in to the Open Market to share his trip down Memory Lane, while telling us about how certain individuals stitched him up (almost literally - he had to buy a new suit for the occasion) for his award. Plus Ady had a natter with former Albion midfielder Alan Navarro.

Meanwhile, Down Under, Richie Parker and Steve Longly chewed the fat over the Spurs game, and guest BBC Sussex commentator Johnny Cantor spoke of his ongoing tales behind the mic.

Two more shows this week for you.

In Australia / New Zealand, Richie and Steve invited Sky Sports presenter Jules Breach, Royal Blood stickman Ben Thatcher and former Albion midfielder Matt Sparrow on for a bumper (90 mins) digest of all things Albion - especially the Man U match.

https://audioboom.com/posts/6853021...ts-jules-breach-ben-thatcher-and-matt-sparrow

Meanwhile, back in blighty, after five years of asking, Danny Cullip finally relented, and came along to our Kemp Town studio with Guy Butters for a natter. Forget all this 'LET'S 'AVE A WINNAH....' bawling from yesteryear, what we've got this week is 99 minutes of pure joy from a genuinely intelligent, articulate and passionate bloke about life, love, the city of Brighton & Hove, and the football club from over the past 20 years.
