How come I don't know her full name, (Shannon something?) How come there's not much news on what is happening with the search?

One of her Aunties was on the news this morning saying the media coverage is not what it would be if Shannon came from a middle class family who had their own media representative, an obvious comparison to the McCann's.

Spot on I thought. I hope she is found alive, but I doubt it. The same goes for Maddie McCann of course.

Yes, but the point I would make is that it wasn't noticed that she had gone missing until 7pm, what does that say about the levels of parental care in her home...regardless of the social standing of her family.

Like you smudge, I sincerely hope she is found alive and unhurt.

Maybe it's not a class issue. Maybe it's just that Shannon's mum isn't anything like as shaggable as Kate McCann?

Dewsbury is a strange place. I lived there for 6 years when I first moved to Yorkshire. It's quite insular even from the rest of West Yorkshire.

probably compares quite well with getting pissed in a tapas bar while your children lie unattended in a hotel apartment...

That map they show in the papers - bloomin' long way for a nine year old girl to be walking home from school IMHO

It's about 2 miles depending on which route she took.

That's Savile Town. Dewsbury Moor (which is where the parents live) is still pretty much the same.

She was in ravensthorpe.

One day some asian kids were causing a nusiance outside and when she told them to bugger off, one of them told her to "f*** off you white bitch"

She put on her coat, walked straight down to the Mosque, stormed in whilst they were just about to have prayers and told everyone who was in the place exactly what had happened and how she thought that asians were supposed to be respectful of old people.

An hour later, the lad appeared at the door with mum and dad in tow, he apologised profusely and she found out later from the Immam, he was sent to live with his extended family in pakistan having brought shame on the family.

My Grandmother long gone now, was a fearsome lady!!!

Good for her.

Ravensthorpe is predominantly Asian now as the white people moved further out into Mirfield.

Fair point Moshe, it still saddens me how stupid the McCanns were, hopefully others will learn from their error...often more important than learning from your own.

indeed, I think there is now a whole generation of parents for whom the "baby listening service" or "taking it in turns to check on the kids" won't ever be an option...

Thank goodness, a harsh lesson that children are just as vulnerable to bad things happening when they are asleep as they are when awake.
