So West Ham have decided to pay Sheff Utd an out of court settlement,i take it this is there way of admitting they were in the wrong, and now Mr Warnock is going for compensation, and there is talk of compensation claims from players also. Hmm,will DK be going for compensation on grounds of they knocked us out the cup with a ringer? If this happens at grass roots your kicked out the cup,so who knows?:albion2:

Nope, we can't do anything about it.

The Tevez affair broke Premier League rules, but not the Football Association rules that the FA cup comes under. Therefore, West Ham did nothing wrong by playing Tevez against us.

I believe that the club looked into this at the time.

The sooner this whole issue just goes away the better.

Warnock can bleat all he likes but the bottom line is Sheff Utd didnt win enough games of football.

They got relegated. End of!!

Disagree. I'm not gonna bother to look it up but I know Tevez scored several VITAL goals (noen more important or obvious than the one at Old Trafford on the final day) at the end of that season when realistically he should not have been playing.

SSN had some hack on this morning who usually I tend to agree with but today he was agreeing with another reporter who was laying into Sheff Utd saying 'it's over a whole season, the reason they went down is they lost most games, blah blah blah'. Don't get me wrong, if Tevez had just played the one game fair enough but he was actually ineligable for the WHOLE season. Who's to say Sheff Utd wouldn't still be in the PL now if they'd stayed up that season?

It's typical PL bollocks, always give benefit of the doubt to the 'Big Club'. If it had been the other way round Sheff Utd would have been relegated and anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional

West Ham have conceeded that they were in the wrong by compensating Sheff Utd out of court.

This means that they also cheated the Sheff Utd players out of the money they would have earned by remaining in the Prem and the additional credibility they would have gained in the transfer market by being Prem players. I can see exactly why the players might be thinking about suing West Ham.

Scudamore and the PL completely botched this whole affair. What West Sham did was easily worth at LEAST a 3 point deduction (which would have seen them relegated instead of Sheff U). The £5m fine at the time was utterly risible, and did absolutely nothing to compensate the club who took the fall as a direct result of West Shams cheating that season.

I gather Sheff U are now getting £3m a year for the next 5 years from them, which goes some way to compensating them I suppose. The whole thing still leaves a nasty taste though.

Whole issue could have been sorted by giving them the points deduction they deserved. Instead its going to rumble on for ages now.

The compensation involved is mind-blowing (20 million over 5 years) and shows just how sick football has become.

I'm with those who said the PL got it wrong in the first place. That's what has caused all this.

Whatever you think about Sheffield United, West Ham fielded what was in effect an ineligible player, lied about it, and then lied about it again saying that the matter had been put right when it clearly hadn't.

If there was ever a case for a points deduction, this was it, and though Sheffield United have done OK out of it, in the longer term and looking at precedent I can't see how the Premier League are ever now going to be able to deduct points for ineligible players. Their West Ham judgment will just be thrown in their faces.

I STILL don't understand how Tevez can carry on playing for Man U when his "economic rights" are still held by Kia Joorabchian. As far as I can tell, the 3rd party ownership issue has not been resolved, and yet Man U can carry on playing him "on loan" with an option to buy at the end of the season.

If they buy him, who gets the transfer fee ?

Has it been reopened by the FA? I thought it was a Premier League issue only since they were both member clubs.

A Premier League and Football Association inquiry launched in January continues to investigate the conduct of some West Ham representatives into the affair.

Also Warnock and the United players (at the time) are also now looking into taking their own legal action.

The problem, as I understand it, was not with who holds his economic rights. It is with the power that Joorabchian had. He effectively held the player registration; West Ham had to check with him every time they wanted to play Mascherano or Tevez, and if he said no, they didn't play. Therefore the contracts gave a third party influence over the football club.

At the moment, Man Utd have paid Joorabchian to loan them the players registration; he has nothing to do with whether he plays or not, and cannot influence the football club in any way. In the same way, Liverpool bought Mascherano from Joorabchian, giving him £17m in the process. They now own his registration and he has no ties to Joorabchian any more.

No that is not the case at all. What the PL were unhappy about was a clause in the contract that would potentially have enabled Joorabchian to sell Tevez in the transfer window unless WHU came up with the dosh first. This had nothing to do with selection, or Tevez's eligibility (he was ALWAYS eligible to play for West Ham, people are still incorrectly reporting this).

What hacks me off about this most of all is that no-one has actually bothered to check the facts in this case. I do agree that the PL have a lot to answer for as their rules are unclear, and their decision making flawed. IMHO given that the PL do allow actual 3rd party influence via the loan system and so called 'gentlemens agreements', they should never have brought a case against West Ham in the first place.

Sheff Utd are a disgrace for trying to cover up their own inadequacies by seeking to scapegoat an opponent (who they beat 3-0 btw). The fact that they blew a ten point advantage over the hammers in the last two months of the season is no-ones fault but their own.

Hopefully this will bring closure to one of the sorriest affairs in Premiership history.

Calling Sheffield Utd a disgrace is baffling, especially as they've just trousered £3million for the next 5 years. Good luck to them, and well done to the directors for sticking to their guns when half of football was telling them "Leave it, they're not worth it!"

If this is the case, why were West Ham fined the £5m, and why did they agree compensation with Sheffield? If Tevez was eligible to play, then surely that is that. How was the arrangement any different than any other loan agreement. What about Phil Neville's own goal for Everton against Man Utd? Surely much more blatent!

Good question. A: Why were they fined £5million, media hysteria and the need to be seen doing something when they didn't even know what they were doing themselves. Also West Ham rather meekly held their hands up and said fair cop at the time of the initial investigation in order to get rid of the case asap. When in my opinion they should have contested the case.

B: Why did they agree compensation with those cry baby talentless muppets? Well they are trying to flog the club at the moment, a clear resolution to this whole farce clarifies the position for any potential buyer.

C: How is it different from any other loan deal, well you saved the best question till last as I would like to hear an answer from the PL on that one. The main problem with this deal was that there was a specific clause written into the contract which potentially gave Kia the option to sell in the window (much in the same way a loan player can be recalled at anytime), rather than the usual verbal or so called gentlemen's agreements that clubs have in these situations. In fact Sheff Utd famously exercised this option themselves in another case, oh the irony!

Sheffield United went down because they were Shit over the whole season !!

Before they came into the equasion it was Dave Whelan who was gonna be doing all the sueing when it looked like Wigan were going to be relegated. Funny how he clambed up after they were safe !!

West Ham held their hands up and took the (amazingly harsh) fine on the chin. Now, (unts like Warnock are coming out of the woodwork wanting their 2 bob !!

Maybe all the Albion fans so on his side on this forum should remember the Notts County play-off final when his lot feigned an injury while we were the better team and then went and scored straight away !!

What a hero he is :tosser:
