Terry Butcher & Maradona

Is Butcher right or should he have got over it by now? Why will he be at Hampden anyway?

From the BBC:

New Argentina boss Diego Maradona will not lose any sleep if Terry Butcher refuses to shake his hand at Hampden.

Scotland assistant Butcher said he will never forgive Maradona for the infamous "Hand of God" goal which helped knock England out of the 1986 World Cup.

"No, I will not seek him out," Maradona said. "I don't understand why Butcher has this attitude.

"England won a World Cup with a goal that never crossed the line, so it's not fair that people should judge me."

Maradona has received a warm welcome in Scotland as he prepares for his first game in charge of the national team.

However, former England captain Butcher was not in the mood to join in with the adulation for one of the game's greatest ever players. It's a very, very proud moment for me to be heading up the Argentina national side

"If people are fine with me, I'll greet them," added Maradona.

"Let Butcher get on with his life and I'll get on with my life.

"I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. If Butcher doesn't shake my hand, I'll still be alive tomorrow."

I can understand him being pissed off at it, but im sure he tried things to get an advantage for his team so he should just be professional and get on with it

He needs to grow up a bit. BUT Terry Butcher is the MASTER of the one-liner;

(After seeing his side thrashed 5-0, Terry went to meet the press)

"Well, if that is the future of British football - then I want no part of it"

He resigned shortly after.

Maybe he should ask himself why he and half the England team stood and watched him waltz past for the second goal before he gets too angry with him. The hand of God wasn't the goal that finished off the game was it Terry?

Maradona's 2nd goal was actually a Butcher own goal anyway.

I think he should fake to shake his hand and then nut him straight between the eyes.

The Fat One has strange standards of honesty and I believe its fair to say he has effectively 75% admitted that it was cheating.
He can throw our '66 world cup goal at us but for years it was difficult at best to judge whether the ball crossed the line or not. That was the ref's decision not an England player cheating.
I read an interesting article in The Times recently in which the ex-president of Napoli admitted that Marradona was helped by the club to avoid drug tests when he was stokin' on Coke. So, he is infact, a serial cheat and as such his reputation WILL always be tarnished.

Good for Terry Butcher, I'm sure if El Gordo was to finally fully admit cheating, then I think Terry would then be able to forgive.

That is true. Maybe why Butcher cannot move on over the 'Hand of God' score. We were still in it before that lummox netted his OG
