Telephone scam?

Over the last few days we've received calls on the landline from number 01650 353 9140 (yes, I know it's eleven digits). Upon answering there is an automated message that says something along the line of 'thank you for verifying your telephone number'. Apparently it then goes on to give a code (I hung up straight away when taking the call this morning (at 6am!), but this is what the wife says it said when she answered at the weekend.

Anyone else experienced somethingh similar, or have any idea what this might be all about? I've tried calling the number back from work but it's unobtainable.

That area code covers a chunk of 'Silicone Valley' to the south of the San Francisco area.

Probably Bill Gates & his pals sending out spam from their spiritual home.

01650 numbers serve an area in Powys around Cemmaes Road and Llanbrynmain. It looks like numbers starting with the digits 35 are allocated to a telecomms company called Localphone ltd. Who they lease them out to is another matter as I cant get to that info.

If it was 01650 it can only be followed by a 6 digit number , I think more likely it is a USA phone number but the CLI is not showing as an international call ie 001 650 3539140. My suspicion is that its a power dialler and when a call is answered logs the called number as valid so it can be used for telemarketing as they have the postal address as well.

I would definitely agree and say it is a blaster/power dialler. These are horrible things and can be a massive pain in the arse when they hang on your line!
