Techies please - anti-virus software

I currently use PandaPlatinun Internet Security which is coming up for renewal.

Are the FREE products like AVG really as good as products like Norton, Panda, Macafee etc etc?

I don't mind paying but there's not much point if the free stuff is as good.

Lost of people use AVG with no problems. I use Norton and McAfee personally but AVG I would recommend.

AVG regularly outperforms rubbish like Norton in benchmarking tests, both for range and number of viruses identified and for overall effect on the machines performance. Switch to AVG and switch on automatic updates and you are almost guaranteed to stay clean. Presume you are using spybot/adaware and the like as well?

AVG is as good as a blowjob. The makers also make Ewido for anti-spyware, and that is pretty good too.

I run free AVG, spybot and adaware on my machine. Never have a problem, run everything twice a week.

I also have zonealarm as my firewall and in the past 3 years I have had 2 tracking cookies identified and that is all. And those were probably my fault tbh.

An interesting thread - since I renewed the sub for Norton around 2 months ago my laptop has been running slower than the Falmer decision.

Have used Norton for the last 3 years but looking at some of the posts I think I will be giving something else a try!
