Tech help re a dingle dangle dongle thingy.

Hi, for those that haven't helped me before, here's where we stand!!:-

My computer is a dog, 10 years old, full, and probably tired!.
My BT broadband is slower than an asthmatic ant (10-15 mins just to boot up), probably due to the computer.

PC World are doing a free lap-top with a 3 dingle dangle dongle contract.

The contract is £5 less than what we pay BT.

So on paper other than the loss of our land line, is there any other downside to converting to a dongle, I need to know.

You need to check the speed of your current broadband ( not how quick it starts up but the bandwidth - say 2Mb ) with the speed the 3 dongle will give you. I use a 3G card when out and about for work and while usable it's very slow compared to my home broadband.

Service can be a bit ropey at busy times with a dongle.

Three things.
Check the coverage for the dongly in your area.
What is the download limit for the afore mentioned dongle. If you go over you will need some gold bars to pay for it.
As for cost comparison, add the cost of your mobile to total.
Sounds like a total of about £60 a month, set against that the £400 cost of the laptop.

If you use it at home, why don't you just buy a laptop and wifi it? Loads of places do free wifi now if you want to go out and about, or you can get a pay as you go dongle.

Mrs St here, just to say its not a dongle if that makes any diff, it is built in to the laptop. And it is a 3GB download limit, they say about 7 hrs of surfing a day

That's built in WiFi then they all have that now.

Some latops have a 3g card and wi fi built in, no hangy out bits!

So you may both be right.

I have a 3 pay-as-you-go dongle. The coverage is pretty good and usually reliable.

I really would not advise getting one of these things as your only source of internet, internet is unreliable and slow, download limits are fairly low and you get carged an absolute bomb if you go slightly over

Yep that one has a plug in dongle and an in built wi fi card

Sorry my mistake Skipper, I forgot to add my inital 'your speaking to a blithering idiot' clause.

We are both pay as you go, and really don't us the land line other than to receive calls from Wifey's family.

i payed £22 odd a month for bt option 3 , have called them for a mac code to switch broadband provider and they immediatly dropped the price to £15.16 a month, i said so why was'nt i paying that to start with, the bloke could'nt answer, so i got my MAC code and am switching internet provider .
