I am having trouble connecting to the internet on my pc and phoned talktalk tech support who couldnt help me because the lettering and icons etc on the desk top etc are so large that the whole page showing changes cannot be shown. I wanted to use a back to factory settings restore but when trying to copy My Doc onto a DVD a message kept coming up saying Windows had encountered a problem copying the items.

How do I reduce the size of everything on the screen and then copy my docs. Many thanks for any help that can be given.

Have managede to coopy the dat I needed to save onto a usb memory stick. What I need to do now is put the first of the 6 recovery discs into the PC and set it running but it wont start automatically so what do I type into the run block to get the cd running. Is it E:/ as that doesnt work so what should I enter. Please somebody help an old PC novice.

Thanks Greens :(
The CD/DVD rom drive is normally assigned as the D: drive, unless you've partitioned the H/D to C: and D:, making the CD/DVD rom drive E:...

Thus you would need to try booting it as/from the D: drive...

It might help, it might not.

On my computer I need to put the first recovery cd in, shut the computer down straight away with the cd still in and reboot.

follow the boot screen instructions, it should automatically hand hold you through the process.

Have you tried turning it off and back on again? I'm not joking.

As your computer should boot from the CD. As long as you got it set up right so the order is boot from CD first, then boot from hard drive.

If all else fails, go into the BIOS at start-up (by pressing F12 or whatever is specified for your PC) and change the boot order (as outlined above) to the CD/DVD drive, turn off and on again and it should boot from rescue disc one :)

What on earth? you're having problems connecting to the net so they suggest you wipe and re-install your OS? It beggars belief.

If you want to make the text and icons smaller then you just play in the 'Display' part of the Control Panel, re-installing the OS is overkill.

whats the make of the pc.

if its a dell press ctrl + f11 at dell logo on startup
if its an acer press alt + f10 at acer logo on startup
if its a packard bell or nec press ctrl + f11 at pb-nec logo at startup
compaq or hewlett packard is f10 at logo on startup.

all the above are for reasonably modern machines running win xp.

if its a vista machine press f8 at logo on startup this will then give you a menu with safe mode safe mode with networking etc, at the top of the list it should say repair you computer, highlight this using you arrow up/down keys.
you will then have a consol where you can run system recovery etc and also an option to restore pc back to factory settings. click on factory setting and follow onscreen instructions.

Not on TalkTalk but I'm amazed they haven't told him to change the screen resolution ! Right click on the desktop !
