Cadiz Seagull
Grey bearded old man
Dick Knight has gone on record to say that the club are happy to talk to potential new investors at any time. But he has also said that no one individual would control the club. This is fine for a minority investor but I suspect someone investing megabucks would want control. Unless, of course, they are stupid, and most people who have managed to make megabucks aren't stupid!
My own personal opinion, based on no more than how I would feel in his situation, is that DK would not be automatically against anyone who wanted to take over the club. He does not strike me as a Doug Ellis type (Deadly Dick?) who would want to hang on to power at all costs until he gets an offer he can't refuse.
I would have thought that DK would be happy to let someone else take over as long as (a) that person had the best interests of the club at heart and (b) that legal safeguards were in place in case the situation changed.
I'm sure that a way could be found to give a megabucks investor control over his investment whilst still blocking him from making changes that would be detrimental to the club, like changing the constitution as happened in the past.
Dick must be fed up with some of the crap he's had to take, and if I were in his shoes and the right guy with the right dosh came along I'd happily take a back seat as long as I was sure the club was in good hands. Let someone else take the flack, and Dick can enjoy his retirement! His place in history is secure.
And while nobody is a bigger supporter of DK and what he has done than me, I wouldn't disagree that a change in leadership may well be good for the club and Dick himself. As long as the right guy is in charge under the right circumstances.
After all, what's to stop Mr megabucks talking to the board, finding out that I am wrong and DK is some sort of dictator who won't relinquish any control at all, and then leak it to the press?
