It is strange he constantly scored from the edge of the box for them in four years we’ve had what one?
He scored one goal in all competitions in his last 3 seasons with Liverpool.
From a quick look on Wikipedia, seems to have dropped off a cliff around the same time his appearances started declining, so maybe linked to injury problems, position played, confidence etc.
Last season was his best (with 3 goals total) since 2016/17 when he scored 8 in 35 appearances. Assuming Wikipedia has his stats right.

Lamptey wasn’t great today but was well marshalled by Liverpool. He wasn’t helped by Veltman not plying great either so he seemed to spend a lot more time in our half than hanging in the space out wide In the final word. Ut physically, he seemed very weak today imo regardless of opponent.

I can only remember him scoring for us three times the whole time he has been here, would be surprised if he managed three last season.

I seem to remember him being a decent free kick/penalty taker at Saints? Maybe I'm imagining it. His finishing has been piss poor for years though.

Just checked the source for the wiki article, that is correct, unless all of the stats sites are wrong and have decided to arbitrarily claim Lallana's scored more goals than we think:

One goal each away at Wolves, Southampton, and Middlesbrough (the latter in the FA Cup obviously).

I was at two of those, and have no recollection of any of them beyond thinking "oh yeah, I vaguely remember finding it amusing that he scored against his old team" when I read that he'd scored against Southampton. I think it was daylight at the time, if that helps.

I’m not sure he has a best or natural position. He lacks the physique, strength and pace to be a traditional FB in the PL
He's not a traditional FB is why, he's a wingback.

Much like players like Grimaldo and Frimpong at Leverkusen have been overlooked because of their flaws, put them in the right system and they're incredible.

It was much the same under Potter when Lamptey broke through, he was playing Wing Back and looked unplayable, his forward play was great and he had the pace to recover defensively.

Slightly baffled by this thread, think Lamptey played on the right to help protect Veltman against Diaz. I don't recall him being frequently beaten for pace? His best games lately have been on the left but today the Pervis and Adingra (plus Welbeck) linke up meant all our threat came down our left, we didn't really play it out wide right at all.

While I agree there are questions to be asked of continuing to play a bloke with an unreliable injury record i am not sure today is the one to pick on him

Considering Liverpool have their GK and 3 of the first choice back 4 out, I was expecting us to attack in behind their fullbacks especially considering the success in the opening minutes

Connor Bradley was one of the three and he was their best player.

Not again. 😩

Such a shame.

I still remember Covid-era Lamptey looking like an absolute star in the making, but sadly injuries are strangling his potential from being fulfilled.

I think he’ll be moved on in the summer if anyone will take him. He’s always injured and hasn’t shown enough in the last 2-3 years when fit to warrant keeping him here.
He’d have to be world class for us to keep him with his current injury record. He has been fine when he has played but getting him to double figured appearances each season seems unlikely.

It’s a shame, but I agree with your prediction. He’s gone now. His contractual situation does not help either as he is coming up to his final year. I wonder if the weather in Portugal will help his fitness next season?

Sussex but not by the sea
I was literally just listening to the latest Albion Unlimited podcast with guest Tariq Lamptey; Johnny and Warren were both saying how great it was that he finally seemed to be fit and getting stronger, FFS.

It's starting to look like he's just not made for this league :(

Doubt anyone will buy him, I think he will be released and a Championship or European team will take a punt on him.
