Bit of a side note but a recommendation to check of the Aaron Ramsdale episode of the Ben Foster podcast. Interesting interview and really interesting to hear quite a candid discussion about his transfer from Sheffield United to Arsenal in the summer.

He touched upon how the unwritten rule in football is that if a transfer doesn't happen (and the player wanted it to), the club will then offer a new contract on increased terms after. Made me think back to when White didn't move to Leeds, got a new contract and people genuinely highlighted it as a sign of his commitment to Brighton. Obviously left a year later.

"I won't name a name and I hope my agent doesn’t see this as I might get in trouble, but normally if you don’t get your move, you’re rewarded with a new contract.

“It’s not set in stone but that’s normal, you saw it at Brentford with Ollie Watkins when he didn't move.

"So we said that and someone at the club, I won’t name names, said: ‘We didn’t ask him to take less money when he was conceding goals at the start of last year.’

Let's see if on the 1st Feb Lamptey signs a shiny new deal. :lolol:

Joking aside, if he is fit until the summer then it's a no brainer that Conte would be after him. He ticks all the boxes and I believe they are currently working on letting Doherty go back to Wolves so that leaves them short of Right Backs. Arsenal surprises me a bit as their current RB is having an excellent first season.

Let's enjoy him whilst he is here. As mentioned above, if this did happen it's showing our model working to perfection, however sad it is to see such a promising player leave.

A contract extension also protects the selling club to some extent as it will mean that the eventual fee is less likely to be negotiated down.

The Arsenal right back didn’t look too clever at the Amex though, did he? Cucurella had him on toast.

To the tune of Frankie Valli and the Four seasons.

Oh what a night...

Oh what a sight Tariq Lamptey running down the wing.. have you ever seen such a thing...come on Brighton score a goal.

Might need some work - thanks to my daughter for that one

It’s worth considering that generally Albion seem like a club where players enjoy their football.

I know many fans are saying Lamptey will ‘defo move in the summer’ but I don’t see it as cut and dried.

Remember he came here in the first instance to get first team football - Potter has repeatedly lauded his professionalism and commitment and although there are numerous PL young footballers who would sell their own mother for a few extra quid, Lamptey is most definitely not one of those.

If we stabilise at around mid table, I think there’s every chance he may play another season with us.

The "score a goal" bit needs more work.

Can she play left back?

Transfer windows is the time for the media to report as well as speculate even more than they normally do. Avoid the click bait rumour mongers who copy and paste from the mainstream services. Its a fair assumption that if any of our players are doing well and are young then they will all but part of the rumour mill. I think its also fair to assume that every player has their price as long as they can be replaced ideally from within or if not recruiting.

I am pretty confident that there is zero chance Tariq or anyone else Potter wants to keep leaves in this window. We are on the cusp of the best finish in our history and there is no way TB is going to disrupt that from happening by weakening the team. Any player in demand now will still be in demand in the summer when we can properly plan around departures. We are not a noddy club anymore.

Indeed, it would take some absolutely obscene bid (£75m+ maybe?) for anyone to sign him this January and I dont see it happening.

He'll go at some point, maybe this summer but more likely the summer after that (since a few key players are very likely to leave this summer already and not everyone should go at the same time).

And Harry Kane in exchange too!

I could see us sadly losing him in the summer, but this January it would have to be an astronomical offer from someone desperate, and willing to pay WAY over the odds. He's off to Spurs next week, then.

I'm reading Spurs have convinced Adama Traore to sign for them as a RWB
