I'm off to Tallinn for three days next month. Staying near the
old town.
Any tips for good beer places and decent food?

There's a beer Keller somewhere where I think we spent most of our time. Didn't remember many good bars but it was middle of winter and pretty bleak then.

I went a few years ago for the Euro Vision Song Contest, great city, loads of bars and restaurants around the main square.
The Golden Pig off the main square did good food, a bizarre Russian Restaurant called Troika in the main square, if you are allowed out on your own or with mates the Lasso Bar was very interesting.
Bizarre walking out of a bar at midnight totally lashed with the sun still up.

12 years since i went ,but loved it stayed in Hotel Europa near the ferry port.Nightclub on the top floor wall to wall ladies but sadly the working kind.Small ,compact and easy to get round.

Best bar in Tallinn by an eastern european country mile is Hell Hunt in Pikk street in the old town. The range of seriously-decent beers is ASTOUNDING and they do great SLABS of tasty bar food for next to no money at all. If you fail to go there, you'll have, well, FAILED. Also well worth a visit in the old town is Museum Of The Estonian Drinks Culture (incl. free drink for your 5 euros admission). Museum itself isn't much cop, but the sign outside makes for an excellent photo-opportunity. It's just up the hill from the splendidly-named Kiek in de Kök medieval tower. Oh, and some of the bakeries in the old town do a mean elk panini, which is not something you see on the menu everyday
Above all, you'll be needing the Estonian for "CHEERS!"
Which, I kid you not, is "TERVISEKS!" which has the added bonus of being pronounced "DERVY SEX"

I'm not sure that shouting "DERVY SEX" at the top of my voice in a bar in a strange town is that great an idea,
but I'll give it some thought.
Give it a go!
Oh, and don't know if you're going there on a stag do, or if you've ever just fancied firing a selection of guns but can highly recommend the Tondi Shooting Range on the outskirts of Tallinn. Not as seriously dodgy as it looks from the outside...

For beers, you've got Pudel bar for the hipsters (craft beer place not too far from old town run by James who's a Bradford fan), Dubliner (typical Irish bar with reasonable pub food), Must Pudel (a local bar on a small side street), Hell Hunt or Nimeta (sports bar but a bit sleazy). For more cocktail type places you have Butterfly Lounge and Deja Vu. For clubs, you have to try Vabank. Music is so so, but the women are top drawer with little competition. For food, try Contravento (Italian that has been round for years but is still very good - you may need to book) or Ribe. Old Hansa is a very touristy place but the food is surprisingly decent. Stay away from all bars and restaurants in Viru street - they can be pretty bad. Hope it helps a bit. Enjoy.

Went in October for the England game - so was very busy.
Firstly, I loved it - everyone was friendly, beer was cheap - Le Coq. Anywhere in the old town has great food - probably more pricey as it's the centre but not too expensive. Some great local food on service.
All within 5 minuets of the square there is some great bars - one is more upmarket, live music and jazz that sort of thing.
Another two I remember we're more typical 'lads' bars - with music, beers and shots.
If you fancy a nightclub - there is one which looks like a Roman Palace - I'm sure someone will know the name - might also feature a Casino. Sorry I can't remember the name, but was too drunk to remember. Had a good dance, cheap drinks, music you can dance to and nice women too.
Overall I'm thoroughly jealous - Tallinn is a great city.
