Lots of strong and detailed opinions on here from people who claim to never listen to it

Like any other station really, some decent stuff, some truly dire and plenty of irritations. I don’t do music much so find myself listening to it a lot - most in the gym (anytime from 7-12 in the morning), when driving and often late at night. It’s better than R5 much of the time.

Presenter preference is key I guess. Cannot stand Brazil and Agbonlahor, one feted for not turning up for work that talks over his guests, answers his own questions and has zero interest outside the top six and the dullest ‘what about the Villa’ man on earth (sorry @El Presidente). Jordan is excellent (shame he has to be on with White though), I like their commentary and punditry on live matches and also like McCoist, Darren Bent, H&J and Andy Townsend plus the Sunday morning stuff.
That’s about where I am although I don’t think I’ve ever listened to a whole programme. I also like Danny Kelly and Danny Murphy.

Jordan has been a breath of fresh air but I’m beginning to tire of his “oh so clever” vocabulary to put someone down.

Rushden and Baker/Barry. Utterly brilliant radio. Feels very out of place on ShoutSport. Just fun and entertaining. Such a shame it's not released as a pod.

Sport is stupid and a real life sitcom which shouldn't be taken seriously. It's entertainment. Hearing people lose their minds over it and ringing up to defend their state-owned club or somehow try and stick of for their owners over-spending does not resonate with me.

There is not enough sport to fill a whole schedule of radio. That's where faux outrage/debate comes from.
"oh crap. We have 2 hours to fill. Right, I'll take the stance that Everton should be punished more and you take the stance that Everton have been unfairly treated. That'll get them calling in"
Bang on, Rushden is class. He just gets it.

His vocabulary is often wrong. He invents words.

Talksport is on my list of rotated stations that I get fed up with. Times Radio and Radio 4 are too dry especially if it's a slow news time, Radio 6 is too worthy - it's basically an all day Jazz club from the fast show - Virgin radio and Absolute are stuck in the 90s. Both are brilliant if you want to catch Catatonia sign Molder and Scilly. Radio 2 feels like I'm waiting to die and I gave up with Radio 5 telling me how racist I am a long time ago. Shame, as it was superb 20 years ago.and my go to station for years.

Dare I say Simon Jordan is the pick of the bunch (Jim White is just an arse licker), Rushden is great at the weekend and Mccoist is very likeable in the mornings. The rest of them are no better than average wind up merchants.

I'll do the survey.

R6 is far more varied and better than that. Punk, dance, ambient, great new music.

R5 … if you exclude 11am to 4pm Mon-Fri you swerve that cacophony.

I appreciate I'm pigeon holing a bit. I rarely listen to R6 at home as the wife doesn't like it so miss out on a lot of content.

R5 is still Ok for sport but nowhere near what it was. Admittedly, it was Radio Bloke back in the day but it was in in the car today and Naga was talking about periods - talk about a 180. I've also caught Campbell attracting weirdos phoning in and don't get me started on that Nihal bloke. Bring back Danny Baker.

Endless gambling adverts extolling how much " fun " you can have just so long as you use the online tools to limit your " fun " to avoid debt, bankruptcy addiction and possible suicide.
For those that would like to know who is having marvellous " Fun " with gambling, just look up " Denise Coates " and be astonished.

Uuuuuurrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh, right?
I turned that off (I'd have left a phone in re Menopause on as I'm sure that will be relevant soon), turned off Simon Jordan having a manufactured argument about racism and left Matt Chorley on who was speaking to someone about gardening. I need to listen to more podcasts.

I'll help with your survey. I listen to TalkSport often, I can take it or leave it. It's not that hard. Some of the shows are better than others that's for sure so i only listen to the ones that i like and i feel are actually hosted by people who are fairly intelligent. It's not that different to footy conversations in the pub that you might have after a game in that some of them are with goons and others with people with good thinking. To dismiss it entirely is just typical NSC snobbery by people stuck right up their own back passages. That said I agree the gambling plugs are far too frequent (not least the ones that are about 'safer gambling') and the glorification of Alan Brazil's drinking is not to my taste.
It's not snobbery at all. The Talksport formula is low grade trolling and repetitive advertising. It's on my rotating list in the car along with (in preferred order) R4, 5 Live, R3 and then TS. If I happen across TS when someone is saying something useful or newsworthy about football I'll listen but as soon as those ads start, I'm off again. So I hear it in occasional 10 min chunks but it's rarely a genuine pleasure. Oh yes, sometimes en route to the Amex for a Sat 3pm I'll listen to stretches of the 1230 commentary.

Commentary of matches, and Max & Barry.

The rest of it can get in the sea. Horrific drivel.

Laura woods left which was great . Couldn't finish a sentence without laughing . Same subject spoken about show after show . They dragged the sancho episode with Ten Haag out for weeks .

Probably the least unlistenable that I've happened across but if you hear them on Guardian Football Weekly you'll know they're full of bullshit on TS, especially re the problem of gambling and other 'big issues'. But like the Owen Jones discussion, you can't blame them for making a living where it's offered but really, "utterly brilliant radio" is a massive stretch for me personally. Obviously we all have different preferences so it's not for me to say that you're wrong. But this isn't a phrase I'd use m'self about their forced-chuckley, utterly formulaic burbling.

Good post, but I'll admit to rating Nicky Cambell as a god! And I like those phone-ins :lolol:

Talksport is good in small doses. You cannot listen to it all day as it is basically a loop of content until something new happens. This is why it is a good channel on match days because the content is being constantly refreshed. On non-match days it can be tedious.
Some presenters are very good (Jordan, McCoist, Murphy) and some are very bad (Brazil, Parlour, the Chelsea bore in the afternoons). As a wind up merchant Cundy is very good at his job. I actually like Matterface as a commentator too.

It's cricket coverage however is appalling and needs to cease forever.

I tend to listen to Drive Time more often than not on the way home from work and I find Andy Goldstein very entertaining. Cundy and Jordan both decent too. I don't listen in the mornings as can't stand Alan Brazil.

I like TalkSport.

Laura Woods was excellent and Shebahn Aherne is another really knowledgeable presenter.

Jim White can f*** off but Simon Jordan is good value except when, as others have said, he starts using 10 long (and usually incorrect) words when 2/3 short ones would do. Alan Brazil needs to be put out to pasture. I'm no stranger to the odd drinking binge, but the glorification of his benders is appalling, especially when they also talk about mental health awareness etc. Hawksbee & Jacobs are superb. Jacobs is just a passionate fan who loves his club and mouthes off when things aren't going well. Like most of us really. Paul Hawksbee is a very funny man who holds it all together brilliantly.

I really like Darren Bent and Andy Goldstein, who is much better in the Drive slot rather than on late at night.

TalkSport, it's all right
