Talksport yesterday

Anyone else hear the Durham phone-in yesterday on Drive, where the subject was "do you get value for money from your season ticket ?" There were some absolute peaches, not least when Cundy (surprise) just couldn't get his head round why a season ticket at Oxford Utd costs more than a season ticket at Wigan.

"That’s just not right. Someone has got the marketing seriously wrong at Oxford, how can that be right ?"
"But Jason, Wigan have far bigger income streams from Sky and from being in the Prem than Oxford, who have to rely on their gate receipts"
"So you're saying that you should pay MORE to watch non-league football than Premiership football ?"
"No, but that’s just the reality. Oxford don't get millions from Sky, so they have to have a different kind of budget and maximise whatever revenue streams they do have"
"Well they've got that badly wrong there. That just cannot be right"

That was a real forehead-slapping moment. But the BEST one was when this Chelsea bloke phoned in - and I swear, he wasn't on a wind up, he was quite serious.

"I pay free fasand pand for my season ticket, middle tier west stand at the Bridge. Good seats, up by the arfway"
"And is that value for money ?"
"To be honest not really, naah its not. The buffet there has been RUBBISH lately, and it takes absolutely AGES to get surved at the bar"

Cundy then went on to earnestly ask whether he'd raised these issues with the club, but by then I was laughing too much to hear the rest of it. I really do think we watch a different game to some people. Can you just imagine that bloke having the Withdean experience ?
Sheesh.

There was some old woman came on later, a Man U fan, who was saying what good value her season ticket is at Old Trafford as it works out at £27 per game.
"That is good value" agreed Durham. "Especially when you consider all that extra time you get into the bargain there as well"

That drew a *snigger* from me.

He said you needed a minimum of £150 for a good night, which was wierd as you could get a 2 week holiday for a family of 4 for £600!

Someone texted Durham to ask "Where does Cundy get his £600 holidays from?

HE DIDN'T HAVE A CLUE. WHAT A KNOB JOCKEY! Just shows you don't have to have a brain to get on to radio!

And even when smaller clubs do get their slot, its for about 5 mins and then they go back to talking about Aresenal, Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool again.

I have decided to stop listening for a few weeks.

Me too along with cancelling my Sky subscription, I feel liberated.

I used to love it when James Whale was on there but now its just a vehicle for plastic Chelsea fans

Fact is, he's right - Oxford paying more for season tickets than Wigan fans ought not be right. It's just he is such a brain-free spanner for not understanding why Oxford fans are paying more...

I knew someone who used to work there and they said that as soon as Moz Dee (head of the station) arrived he started messing about with stuff that did not need fixing. Danny Kelly is hardly ever on but is one of the best presenters around. That tit Collymore is treated like a god, I mean I suppose they got rid of that utter cu&*t Gaunt but H&J should have been binned ages ago, well at least Andy "talentless" Jacobs.

I always switched off when H and J came on, they are terrible, they must have some sort of relative who runs the station.

As for Collymore, I knew a girl at University years ago who went to school with him in the 80's. She said he was a complete and utter cock then.

You're right about Moz Dee, but that is the way of things generally, and not just at talkSPORT. More celebs/ex-players, less trained broadcasters and journalists. The battle has been all but lost on that front.

And Gaunt would still be there if he hadn't actually called someone a Nazi live on air. They had to get rid of him, or the station would have been in a lot of trouble themselves.
