Well done to them

TOWN’S League One fixture at Carlisle on Saturday, September 4, will go ahead despite three international call-ups for Danny Wilson’s side.

Striker Thomas Dossevi was yesterday named in the Togo squad for their African Cup of Nations qualifier in Botswana on the same day, while Paul Caddis and Billy Bodin will represent Scotland Under 21 and Wales Under 21 respectively that weekend.

If a club has three or more players unavailable due to international call ups the Football League will allow them to postpone a match, but Swindon have decided against that move.

A club spokesman explained: “After considering our options, we do not want the game to be called off because it would then have to be played on a Tuesday night.

“Travelling that sort of distance for an evening game would not be an ideal situation for the players and the fans.”

Are all those players actually first choice players though? I have no idea.

I mean, it's easy to say you're thinking of the fans, but would we be "thinking of the fans" if we decided not to postpone a match because (say) Gary Hart, Lewis Dunk and Chris Holroyd were missing?

Would they have considered the fans so much if it was a home game and postponing would give them an advantage because away fans would be less likely to show up? Something tells me not.

Yes, two of the three have started every game this season
