surely Kent have two Bowling points and should be on 153 ?

correct they only update the table after an innings has finished.

By my calculations the only way to guarantee survival is to score 250 AND draw the game.

Yorks and Kent will both be on 155 after they bowl us and Durham out, we are on 154 so need those two points. 250 would also mean they have to bat again give more chance for the draw.

If we have to follow on we will have to bat until tomommow evening and hope Kent lose

The other possibility, which struck me yesterday (but we don't want to rely on it), is that we are bowled out for less than 200 today so Yorkshire would overtake us if we draw having got 5 more bonus points. Yorkshire then have no interest in winning, don't make us follow on and bat as long as they can to ensure the draw. If Kent then lose to Durham, we would then overtake them with the 7 points from a draw.

As I said I wouldn't want to rely on it but it is not impossible.

lets get to 250, and then drop anchor for the rest of the day, and all of tomorrow, then we are SAFE

who is to say we cant get massive partnerships going like they did? We still have Nash, Goodwin, Wright, Prior all cabable of getting past 50 easily, Tucker is also handy with the bat, as is Sami

I cant see Yorkshire not making us follow on, they will be quite keen on finishing above Lancs

I disagree. They will be more worried about survival. When they have ensured a draw would put them above us, why would they consider risking it even for the outside chance of losing? If we got 190 and then 300, setting them about 100 to win, it may just get difficult and I would say is not worth the risk. However, with a 210 run lead they can push on and ensure there is no chance of us winning.

What about Grizzly. He is due a decent knock. An Adams century to keep us up and send Yorkshire down. Is it written in the stars?

I was talking about the 'current' in play points totals !!!

We are one point ahead of them
Sussex 154
Yorkshire 153

If they bowl us out they get 3 points taking them to 156

If we get more than 200 but under 249 we will be on 155 points
If we get to 300, we will be on 156 points, level with them
If we get past 349 we go 1 point above them.

We need to be on level points with them to stay up, or in theory there is a result that would see us BOTH safe if Kent lose?

They started the match on 147 so the 153 must include one bowling bonus point. We need 200 to stay above them (having won the same and lost less) but 251 is the key. Get that and we should (and I say should) survive. Could be tense today.
