Sussex Champagne? How does that work?

Read the article?

Nyetimber can't call it Champagne obviously but the terrain & climate over here are correct for growing fizz - there are two other vineyards local to us as well.....

Bloody lovely stuff and on sale in my local Post Office:thumbsup:

I can see the Nytimber vineyard from my house, it's a lovely place to look at, you can also see a lot of it when playing at West Chilt golf club, especially along the 2nd fairway.

I have to say, their Classic blend is my absolute favourite of all champers/fizzy whites I've ever had, it's worth a try for any of you who've not had it, but then, this report tells you taht anyway. That said I'm not so keen on their Chardonnay single grape fizz.

Oh and next door to Nyetimber is the Nutbourne vineyard who make a very good fizz too, called Nutty

Was a blind tasting test. I love the Nyetimber range, and especially in England you get more value for your money buying an English sparkling wine to a French champagne, if only because they don't export their nicer stuff..

70% of the Pol Roger Champagne is exported.

That's the good stuff.

I must admit to have never tried it! I tend to buy a lot of French wine on my general forays to France though, and the price difference & quality difference from the selection in England (which is obviously going to occur) has always put me off buying any expensive French wine in England!

Back onto the topic of sparkling wine, I'm also a huge fan of the Italian prosecco, especially in the summer with a salad, very light and fruity..

My missus likes that stuff. Far too sweet for me.

For me, summer salads (especially goat's cheese) go with a nice Sancerre.

wine reviews crack me up:

The Nyetimber wine, made from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes, is described as having “aromas of mandarins, vanilla and lemons” as well as “shortbread and light apricot” with “biscuity notes playing a supporting role”.

But it's the biscuity notes that do it for me, that is what makes the Nyetimber Classic Blend soooooo lovely.

Surely British sparkling wines will truly have arrived once it's possible for the press to mention them being pretty damn good (which they are) without needing to throw in some cheap jingoism about "beating the French" etc?

Yeah, 6 years ago, and they've just beaten them again.
