I am hearing from friends and colleagues there are some odd disease symptoms going around. Some have COVID-like symptoms, but are COVID-negative.
Recently (last 2 weeks) me and Mrs T have both experienced similar symptoms, with the nipper having a milder version. Ordinarily I would have passed some of this off as old age-related aches and pains, as the symptoms are so 'specific'. But Mrs T is not old, and you cannot transmit and share innate health problems any more than you can transmit Marmite.
The main symptom is mental lassitude. A sort of mental fatigue. I have dozed off in the afternoon a few times, and find myself staring into the middle distance. This is worst first thing in the morning. It isn't booze related. Mrs T is a very light drinker, and I stopped drinking 11 days ago and there was absolutely no benefit.
The other main symptom is back and neck pain. Mrs T and I both got pain in the lower back and abdomen, in places neither of us have ever had pain before. This looks to me like a sensory ganglion infection. That lasted about 3 days. At one point I could barely stand up. This symptom appeared suddenly during an afternoon.
Both of us had a cough and sore throat but this was mild and lasted only a couple of days. No temperature. Negative Covid test.
We both had a bit of 'tummy trouble' at one point.
The final symptom for me was an inner ear issue. No pain, but a gurgling in the Eustachian tube in one ear, as if liquidy mucous was moving about.. Vanished overnight.
Everything has pretty much passed now.
Two of our neighbours have had similar symptoms but dominated by 'the shits' with one of them losing quite a bit of weight. Lasted around 2 weeks (like our malaise)
So, is this a thing? I suspect there are all sorts of weird viruses about. Successful ones won't kill anyone or greatly debilitate them because viral survival requires the opportunity to spread. And unless people mention the symptoms nobody will know about them.
