For those interested, and as per the Argus today:-

Back row: John Shepherd (Team Manager), Barry Smith, Sean Edwards, Steve Palmer, Franco Massimo, Phil Lovell, Paul Arscott, Trevor Wood, Paddy Rae (Trainer), Mick Fogden (Assistant Team Manager).

Front row: Terry Spinks, Chris Murphy, Daren Newman, Paul Dobinson, Danny Carter, David Gipp.

The side had just won the South East Counties Junior Cup, beating West Ham over two legs.

Steve Palmer went on to have a successful league career (but not with Albion); Trevor Wood played for Northern Ireland and in the Champions League, and was almost the man that stood between Albion and oblivion on that fateful day in May 1997 (he had played the previous 19 games for Hereford, but Graham Turner sprang a surprise by selecting Andy Debont instead); and Danny Carter had a successful career with Leyton Orient.

The story goes that Steve Palmer came home from Cambridge, where he was at university, one year expecting to take part in pre-season training as usual only to be told that his services were no longer required. Another great decision by the Albion, as he went on to play for six years each at Ipswich and Watford.
