My niece came to stay with us a few days ago (she is currently in her third year at uni) and her diet consists of Miso Soup and noodles with whatever veggies she has at the time.

I am now in love with Miso Soup. 99p for five sachets (each sachet makes two meals) absolute bargain.

You can buy a tub of miso paste for 50p over here. Now that's a bargain.:)

Er...I'd go to the market towards the end of the day and buy loads of veggies at bargain prices. I'd then go home and make soups, curries, pasta dishes ...whatever.Students these days seem to have more money than we had.

And I'd top that lot up with curries at 90p a time (this was Bradford in the 70s).

Where do I get it? What does it taste of?

It sounds good.

In Tesco/Sainsburys it's in the aisle that has all the stuff for Fajitas, Curry pastes etc. It's not with the regular soups. It's in the sushi, japanese type bit (where you buy that horrid fake green seaweed stuff) Comes in a small red box.

As for taste - I don't know really, it's quite salty. I wouldn't eat just a bowl of miso soup, bung some noodles in or veggies in with it.

It's good stuff!

What is this MISO you all speak of?

THIS is MISO
Miso-Soup.gif

Miso is a strange paste thing, made from fermented soy beans, I think. It has a slightly fishy taste so is probably mixed with some kind of fish stock or something. Usually there is some tofu, seaweed and (sometimes) mushrooms chucked in with it.

I'm a lazy bastard so usually I just mix the paste with hot water and drink it as if it's an exotic cup of tea...

If I want to IMPRESS people I put in tofu, seaweed, mushrooms and onions. But not too much of any otherwise you destroy the ESSENCE of miso.:)

Do NOT put noodles in it. That'd be like...well I can't actually think of a suitable comparison but suffice to say it'd be WRONG. Like watching porn with your mum is wrong.

Noodles with miso is good :p

We've had it with tofu, watercress, mushrooms, leeks. Any vegies really.

And I spread the paste on bread and eat it with tahini and avocado.

And you can marinate meat, fish, poultry in it.

That seaweed stuff you can get here in Tesco is like some sort of nuclear experiment gone wrong.

1) That's just plain WRONG.

2) That's more like it.

3)

4)Really?

5)That seaweed stuff actually originates from North Korea...

But I like noodles and I'm looking to eat my miso aa a substantial lunch. So I shall use them.

Miso is only a side dish. Eat your noodles first then eat your miso. That'd be swell*
