May I say that that STA website is EXTREMLY helpful, I have been tempted on doing some travelling or volunteer work next year and I am tempted on doing some building work in Vietnam or Ecuador

When you have packed your backpack (which has to be the size of a house) with all of your alternative clothes and the packed lunches that mumsy has made you and strapped it to your back, on no account take it off.

When you get on a train or bus dont take it off and carry it in front of you. That way every time you turn around to see if Josh and Tarquin are still with you, you will knock 4 members of the public standing nearby minding their own business over and make you as popular as you are when youre not on a gap year but spend all day taking up a table in a pub drinking half a cider (with blackcurrent in it because you dont really like the taste) preventing the same people that youve just knocked under a train (they recovered) from sitting down!

f***ing TAKE YOUR RUCKSACKS OFF YOU SELFISH BASTARDS! AND TRAIN SEATS ARE FOR PEOPLE TO SIT ON NOT FOR YOUR f***ing LUGGAGE!

Thats my advice for gap year students anyway.

Call me selfish but I couldn't deal with building mud huts for people and paying for it, much prefer my LA, Fiji,NZ,Oz trip :)

PS I recommend central America, Mexican Yucatan Peninsula down to as far as you want to go, loads of countries in relatively easy travel time.
