....and it wasn't just the BBC or simply the media, it was across society......scouts, cubs, swimming instructors, clergy, teachers, social workers, care assistants.......it was and is everywhere......celebs just make big headlines, ordinary folk getting caught just warrant a page 7 partial column in relative obscurity.

If they can achieve the jobs you've mentioned (which i do believe) you would have to ask yourself wether they could become government members, royal family members, tv broadcasters and all the other highly influential position in our society? Look what powers Saville was given!

However I do think the sign in the BBC recruitment centre of 'You don't have to be a paedophile to work here but it helps' was very sensitive, even back in the 70's.

Why would they not?.... they don't have 'NONCE' tattood on their foreheads.

What? read what I typed. I specifically typed (Which I do Believe) in relation to wether they could get these jobs!
Bloody hell talk about reacting to the first word!

One thing I just thought though..

What are the chances of him getting a fair trial now?

99.9% of people must have an extremely negative of view of him and will go into the courtroom holding that prejudice.

If he is guilty, hopefully he will plead that way.

He will get off scot free as he will finally play his 'joker'. Does make wonder whether Gennaro and Guido were at it to!

It's difficult to know where to start with this so I'll just point out that it has always been illegal and unacceptable to rape children.

Reading the responses to my comments I feel I should try & explain my thinking.

why are so many celebs being arrested for offences that go back decades in the wake of the saville saga.

If they are guilty of these crimes then let them hang.

What I don't know or understand is are these offences that were reported at the time but not investigated or offences that
were not reported.

If they were reported & not investigated then the police are as guilty as they are.

If they were not reported until now how can a proper investigation happen 30 years later.

A lot of what was acceptable 30 years ago is now deemed inappropriate. Also where we're the parents of the victims when these offences took place.I have an 18 month old daughter who is the reason I get out of bed every day,I will never put her safety in jeopardy until she is old enough to convince me that she can take care of herself.

Am I the only person that dosent see the point in all this.
Saville,Stuart hall,DLT,Rolf Harris & im sure there are many more offences that were committed many years ago by so called celebs.
Why were these so called offences not reported 20,30 or 40 years ago when the incidents happened.

Why is it that when we live in a day & age when you can't say boo to a goose do all these accusations come out.

When I was a little boy standing in the north stand it was seen as acceptable to make monkey chants to black players,
I would be lying if I said I never joined in,but that was then & this is now.Does that mean that if a retired footballer decides that we was racially abused at the goldstone 30 years ago that the police will investigate & see if we have a case to answer.

What I'm trying to say is what was acceptable 30 years ago may not be now.

Spending millions of pounds of public money to send men that are in there 70's & 80's to prison for crimes that were committed 30 years ago & were not investigated at the time seems pointless to me.

Read back what you said here. Did you really mean it that way? If you did, I really don't know where to start. Suffice to say, I'm fairly certain child abuse wasn't acceptable in the 70's

Hasn't the Saville case proved that some of his crimes were reported at the time and were swept under the carpet by his mates in the police or did you miss that bit? Aren't we now finding out that some of them took place in hospitals, for God's sake? This whole saga has evidenced the comprehensive failure of state organs that should have protected children being at best ambivalent in the face of evidence that there were predatory pedophiles in the entertainment industry. It is important for all concerned that these people are caught and punished accordingly so we learn from ours and others mistakes.

The saville case has certainly opened a can of worms.
If all that has been reported is true about saville then the justice system in this country sucks.
How can a man that was knighted by the queen have so many ghosts in his closet & not be questioned when he was alive.

Is it a coincidence that all the other celebs under arrest are connected to the BBC

Saville
Stuart hall
DLT
Rolf Harris

Maybe somebody has taken exception to paying the tv licence

I am wondering how many years you remained in bed before you managed to produce your daughter?:D
I was a kid once, it's true. I used to play outside all day long, went to the cubs, went to the swimming pool, went to Sunday school and as long as I had a mate to go with my parents let me get myself there and back and I was not the only 9 year old kid with such freedoms in 1980. My parents worried that I would do something out of order, not that something would happen to me.

Truth be told, I suspect it is coincidence really. Bear in mind as a UK based entertainer you didn't have much choice but to end up on the BEEB in the 70s. Commercial TV or Radio were still very much in their infancy.

Me too. Except that was in the fifties.

My mates and I had just the one encounter with a paedophile - a bloke who offered us a shilling to touch his willy. Curiously, it didn't leave me traumatised for life.

The incident was reported to the police, btw, and the guy was arrested and convicted. And, to help identify him, we all got to look at the photo album the police kept of all the known dirty old men in town.
