That's a huge amount for a non-league player, is that the most ever paid for a player outside the league. Can't be arsed to look myself, Forest Green chairman must be grinning like a Cheshire Cat

Crewe Alexandra have had a bid for much sought-after Forest Green Rovers striker Stuart Fleetwood accepted.
The League One side, who failed with an initial bid of £175,000, have now been given permission to open talks with Fleetwood about a possible move.

MORE than £175k.
Even though there is a genuine chance that he will move on later for real money, this would have been too big a gamble for us. If that money were avaiable, it would be far better spent on a couple of good experienced players.

Nope I can't be arsed to look either but I'm pretty sure that Peterboro have paid more for some of the 'non league' players they picked up in the last couple of seasons ...

We used to hold the record. We paid £115K for Robert Codner, then paid another £115K for Nicky Bisset a few days later. Both were bought from Barnet. That must have been back in the late 80's / early 90's.

Rejected the move and says he's staying at FGR until the end of the season.

He's out of contract at the end of the season. Someone get in quick.

That news has certainly brightened my day, at least he is rewarding the faith of the club who took a risk by offering him a contract, an all too rare quality in the modern footballer. However the upside for Stuart is that if he continues to bang in the goals, and ends the season having netted say 50, his marketable value will almost certainly have increased from where it currently stands.

I look forward to seeing him bang in a hat-trick on Saturday against the Grecians.

Wow, an honest and caring footballer who actuallt cares about his club and team-mates. I hope for his sake that he carries on scoring and gets an even better move in the summer (I hear a club called Brighton could do with another striker), a deal which seems to suit everyone rather than just running off at the first sniff of higher level football.
