I struggle to see how this will affect his game. In fact I will argue this public display of unity might actually enhance things overall.

He's entirely right in responding. He's defending his team-mate, a man who was subjected to utterly abhorrent behaviour. What's more he's doing it in a reasoned, considerate manner and isn't stooping to their level.

I would have thought club have a social media policy for players and I expect the club is aware of today's twitter activities and is advising DS accordingly

Entirely up to him, unless the club have a specific policy on the use of social media. It must however be really frustrating for him and others who look to engage with anyone who holds views which effectively support racism, as they are closed to any discussion which disproves their abhorrent views
