Top man and top player for us. Also, don't blame him for us not winning the title, I put that down to Baldock missing an open goal.

I put that down to all of our players being pissed from the celebrations after winning the Wigan game through to the end of the season. :drink:

I'll always remember him for two things,

1. The incredible double penalty save against Wednesday,
2. Letting Grealish's tame effort in and costing us the title.

He could be both brilliant and infuriating, but I liked him.

The team won us promotion, the same team messed up not winning the title with 3 games to play.
Blame Stockdale and Baldock, but also blame the others.

Did very well for us. End of contract only interested in money and would have signed for anyone. Assume his first season at Birmingham where Rednapp was was throwing money away was ok. After that looked like just happy to see his contract out and rake in the money. Will always be something that grates with me about football that players with contracts can just sit on backside and still earn a fortune. The employment rules that came in meaning clubs to protect investment have to extend contracts before last one is over has a lot to answer for.

The 2016/17 season was his peak and he was a big part of our promotion. His loss that he chose not manage his weight and stick around to challenge Ryan. Our loss that we haven’t had a keeper to challenge Ryan whilst we have been in the PL

I have very fond memories of Stockdale and wish him well.

Stockdale cost 'us' the title, not the fact the team couldn't muster 1 (one) point from 3 games, preferring to end their season early.
I'm sure the other 24 players are pleased you blame Stockdale.

Tough and very generous crowd!

I think that is a little harsh. If he was prepared to go full Winston Bogarde and sit around scratching his arse while collecting his payslip then I somewhat doubt he would have agreed to go on loan to Southend, Wycombe and Coventry.

This.

It's the laziest, simplest and most naive of criticisms to blame one mistake on us not winning the title. One mistake in the context of an entire season. A season where Newcastle were expected to walk away with it and be promoted by October (or something). A season which actually ended with them being run to the last minute of the last game by little old Brighton and still needing Jack f**king Grealish to win them the league.

My Daughter sent him a tweet asking him to video me a happy birthday message. He did. Very few would have done that so he will always be a part of my Albion life.
I do hope that a team come in to take him, especially as he is now a free agent.

I'll always remember him fondly. Eccentric at times, which looking back is funny now but at the time hugely frustrating.

Can't blame him for taking the money when he knew he was on his way out of the starting eleven anyway.

Is his little and large clothing business with Leon Knight still trading?

Right up there with most bizarre business collaboration, were they ever together at a club?

Agreed. I unfollowed him a while back but fairly regularly he'd point out to Birmingham fans with the same opinion that he did not ask or did not want to train with the kids - but he was singled out as not being in the teams plans and was a higher earner apparently

Top bloke a special memory in Albion history, especially that double save against massive

Still one of the strangest decisions in football. Wherever he ends up I wish him well

We needed one win from 3 games, or 3 draws, we drew the last match with Villa.
But we managed to lose to Norwich away, the same team we destroyed 5-0 at home, and lose at home to Bristol City who we also beat in the away game.

Met him when I got married at the Amex, happy to pose for pictures with all and even got in on the group wedding photo!

Sadly my wife passed away 5 months later and he took time to sand a conciliatory private message via a mate on twitter. Didn't need to do that and will always hold him in high esteem for it.

Promotion season he was great and an integral part of our success. He also handled himself with distinction after the Shoreham disaster.

To add a "but" - he did always have the look of a tuck-shop kiddie and his weight fluctuations were obviously an issue, even then. Maybe he knew the Prem was a level too high for him, so fair plays. Tbf though, I have been surprised by his lack of games and poor form ever since leaving us as I thought he was a good signing for the Brum...

Not sure why this is even news.

Stockdale did a fairly good interview with The Athletic and basically said the club only wanted to offer him 2 years + he knew they were singing Maty Ryan. His daughters GCSEs were coming up and Birmingham offered him a 3 year deal which offered some certainty so he took that.

Is news to me, as I have never read The Athletic, so have never seen the article. Fair enough though, thanks for the info!

In terms of challenging Maty Ryan, both Tim Krul, and probably Niki Maenpaa were both superior to Stockdale, certainly when it comes down to consistency.

Still trail a long way behind Maty though.

I imagine they don't give a shit about my opinion, and frankly, neither should you.
