I also know of someone who parked on Tongdean lane whose car was towed away during a game after a steward had asked him not to park there, so they may have a little more power than you give them credit for.

Just to make clear, stewards do not have the power to get people towed. They might have informed the police of someone obstructing but it was the police who had the power to tow. And to be frank it's deserved if it is obstruction.

The police will only get involved if it is a criminal matter and an unsigned private road being used as a normal public road is not something the police can deal with. Parking restrictions would have to be properly signed before they were enforcable. As for civil action on an unsigned private road..................this would take ages to sort out.

I think this grey area between being asked not to park and it being illegal didn't work at Withdean and isn't going to work at Falmer. Either make it legally enforceable (like at the Emirates) or appreciate it isn't going to work.

Whilst they may not have the power to stop you parking there, if the stewards, as representatives of the club, have asked you not to and you park there regardless, I'm sure the club have the right to revoke your match tickets. I imagine there is something in the terms and conditions of tickets.

The club can and cannot allow who they wish to enter their private property.

As for your sanctimonious, holier than thou attitude ,

But that means the club can stick a steward anywhere they want and say you cant park here. There has to be a point where it becomes unreasonable.

You're missing the point. The club have to have a sustainable transport policy of some sort. If 20,000 people all drove and parked where they like what chance do you think there would be of planning permission being granted for increasing capacity.

What?

As for your sanctimonious, holier than thou attitude ,

What sanctimonious attitude? I was simply pointing out when you buy tickets you agree to terms and conditions, and perhaps the club have written into their's something which allows them to deny you admission/revoke your season ticket if you don't follow the clubs policy on transport, and that just because the stewards might not have a legal right to dictate where you park, it doesn't mean there won't be repercussions if you wilfully ignore their 'instructions'.

It has crossed my mind as to what actaully would stop someone simply ignoring the stewards at the entrance to Stanmer Park and parking there. I guess though that they do have some authority passed onto them by the council.

....
I'm not sure what you're trying to say? The Amex is private property governed by umpteen different rules and regulations, it isn't a public open space and the club can decide to refuse you admission. Usually it's because someone is pissed off their face or subject to a banning order, but I'm sure they can also refuse you admission if you've broken the unofficial house 'rules' (such as driving to a game and not using a P&R site) even if those 'rules' aren't legally enforceable.

What's with all this 'I know my rights crap'. Not sure but wasn't the parking arrangements part of the planning permission for the ground and isn't part of the terms and conditions of the season tickets something along the lines of complying with the club's parking policy. Breach it and then maybe the club will cancel your season ticket. Perhaps worth checking out as although you might not get a parking ticket, you might find you no longer need to park there in the future anyway!!!!
Perhaps you should be sure before you start mouthing off about people simply trying to ascertain what powers a steward has on land that is nothing to do with the club.

'cos I pay to park in the Uni car park ??

You clearly have more money than sense then.

So because you choose to pay to park that means that everyone else should.

How much do you pay for this?
