There was a story that Robbie Williams was at the Crewe game that proved to be unfounded, but I also heard that 80's legend and former lead singer with 'Visage' Steve Strange was in the crowd. Any truth in this?? Maybe he is involved in the Falmer single project (I remember he was a key figure in the Band Aid single) or perhaps he is a showbiz mate of Fat Boy Slim. Anyone see him on Sat??

I dunno, but I do know that the main writer of Visage's big hit 'Fade to Grey' is an avid Brighton fan.

PS - I don't think Steve Strange was a key figure in Band Aid. Midge Ure (Ultravox) was, and Ure also co-wrote Fade to Grey which is perhaps the link you were thinking of?

Midge Ure was a key figure, but Steve Strange was in the video along with a load of other dodgy mullets. It would be a real coup if Steve is involved in the Falmer single, and could boost record sales with all the followers of the 'New Romantic' scene buying the single. Not sure what his financial situation is like these days as his heyday was in the 80's, but he was a successful entrepreneur so maybe he can buy us that strike partner for Leon Knight.

I met Steve Strange a couple of times in the 80s and he certainly wasn't into football then, maybe he's changed. Last I heard he was trying to get a version of Visage together with Rusty Egan to try and tour the States.

Having read his bestselling autobiography 'Blitzed' it certainly sounded like he had an excessive social life in the 80's. But then football became fashionable after Italia 90 so maybe he got interested then. He was in Brighton for the 'Here and Now' (80's)Tour last year and presumably used it as an excuse to take in a match at Withdean. Last I heard of him was on one of those reality TV shows on C4 earlier this year.

Is this some sort of 'Band Aid' for Falmer?

great idea!! If we could get celeb fans such as Fat Boy Slim and Steve Strange on board it could be a great success. Steve Strange is still held in great regard by many as one of the key figures of the 80's, so followers of the 'New Romantic' Scene (which seems to be making a comeback at the moment e.g Duran Duran) would surely buy the Falmer single.

shame Leo Sayer 's about to leave the country! Still there's always David Van Day, Paul McCartney, Roger Daltrey and Phil Collins (or did he move to Switzerland) in the county, oh and Krispies

Nick Cave was living on the end of Hastings Pier last time I checked, and i'm sure Rusty Egan lives in the Worthing area.

Sat in front of Norman on Saturday and he had a few mates with him but didn't recognise Steve Strange. He was explaining the game to an American but then didn't return to the same seat in the second half

What's all the excitment? I thought Steve Strange was just a talentless "face"?

Steve Strange is arguably the most important music artist of the 1980's, launching the New Romantic scene and he created the nightclub culture. His band Visage wrote the definitive song of the 1980's 'fade to grey'. He was a successful nightclub entrepreneur in London in the 1990's and though he has faded out of view a little recently, he would be an interesting person linked to the club.

Ok - fashion stylist and businessman yes. Music artist - no.

He had a string of number 1 hits across Europe, being especially popular in Germany, a key chart for most artists. Any music artist would say that chart success in Germany is most valued as the consumers are more discerning. For some reason he never really made it in America.

Brovian the writer that you mentioned "Fade to Grey" Was his name Chris and he used to live in Lancing, and also in Tubeway Army? I used to know him but lost contact. Remember he was keen on cricket and used to play it with Gary Numan
