Have just bought 'The Revolution Starts Here', the first Steve Earle CD I've bought - brilliant.

Can anyone recommend any others?

Good shout.

His first album Guitar Town in the mid 80's was pretty good, but he was a new Nashville country boy then. Train a Coming ten years later or so saw him break away (and burn his bridges) from the Nashville scene and I think that it is his best album. The recent live album Just An American Boy is pretty good as far as live album's go, and there's also a DVD version of it.

If he's on form (he can be a bit patchy) he's worth seeing live also if he comes over.

If you like Steve Earle try to track down albums by the Philadelphia band Marah - they are superb in a similar, but rockier rootsy vein.

His work can be pretty much divided between his addict/alcoholic period which ended in a spell in prison in the mid 90's and what he did after he had cleaned up.

The compilation ; 'The Devil's Right Hand , An Introduction to Steve Earle' covers the earlier period pretty well. Of the studio albums from this period I would favour 'Guitar Town

His 'clean' period output has been quite consistent. The albums I have got which I would recommend are 'I Feel Alright' and 'El Corazon'. 'The Mountain' is good but you have to like bluegrass music and 'Train 'a comin' is quite folky. I haven't heard the rest of his more recent output but from what I have heard it has been very consistent.

Try and catch him live if you can.

Wow! I am impressed. Absolutly love this guy, saw the last tour.
On his day he comes up to the level of Neil Young (wih Crazy Horse) but considerably more relevant to todays political situation.

You just knew something was going to happen at Shephers Bush last year, sure enough, right across the drum kit f*** THE WAR.

I note the conservative Bush suckers don't even bother trying to cross this guy!

Check out John Walker's Blues from Jerusalem, cutting edge or what!

One festival date confirmed for the UK this summer.

Near the park.
I'm amazed no one mentioned 'Copperhead Road'

Still humming those tunes 25 years later.
Still know all the words.

One my favourites EVER !

Have PM'd Vicar and Capone ...

Been a long-time fan of Steve Earle …there is some great stuff around. IMHO:
Guitar Town (1986)
Copperhead Road (1988)
and Shut Up and Die Like an Aviator (1991)
are all essential albums.
The only disappointing album in my view is I Feel Alright.
My favourite Steve Earle track has to be Fearless Heart.
Also check out Shawn Colvin and Mary Lee’s Corvette who have covered various Steve Earle songs particularly well. Mary Lee’s husband Eric Ambel played guitar on Steve’s most recent US tour and he is also worth checking out in his own right. Your can download Mary Lee’s music for free at http://www.maryleescorvette.com (she's also a masive Bob Dylan fan and their is a good connection there also)

Spot on miguel.

Copperhead Road is one of those songs that has to be played at high volume to get the full benefit.
