Don't worry,i'm not starting another fan club but if I were, these Bristol Rovers players and their manager would be joining.

Bristol Rovers' own version of the Steve Coppell Fan Club will be trying to dump the Brighton boss out of the Carling Cup at the Memorial Stadium this evening. Pirates'manager Ray Graydon says he is a big admirer of the Seagulls chief - while keeper Kevin Miller and defender Ijah Anderson both have fond memories of their time working under Coppell at Crystal Palace and Brentford respectively.

But that won't stop the trio doing their best to upset the odds by beating the Seagulls in the first round.

Anderson, who spent eight years of his career at Griffin Park, said: "I loved playing under Steve at Brentford - he was different class at everything from man management to coaching.

"On the training ground he wouldn't say too much, but what he did say made sense and the game seem so simple.

"I think a lot of players who worked under him in the past - and a lot still in the game today - are in debt to him because he's a brilliant coach and a brilliant manager."

Miller added: "Steve is very laid back, very easy going and a good manager. He will want his team to come here and play good football, so it should be an interesting game.

"I've not spoken to him since I left so I'm hoping I can have a chat with him after the match."

Graydon knows Rovers will need to be right on top of their game if they are to overcome Brighton and said: "Steve is a very experienced and capable manager. I know him well.

"I watched Brighton last season and they are a very good footballing team.

They will come here and zip the ball about and it will be a terrific test for us against a team who were two divisions above us not so long ago.

"They come here off the back of a terrific win at Oldham on Saturday, but we won as well at the weekend and we have nothing to lose tonight.

"We want to stay in the competition as long as possible and get some momentum going. It's also important financially for us to stay in the cup competitions as long as we can."
