I'm listening to Radio 5 live and I must say I like Claridge, he's fast becoming my favourite pundit.

I don't always agree with him, but at least he has an opinion, passion and a knowledge of lower league football. I also find him quite funny.

Good bloke

Steve Claridge. He's allright :thumbsup:
Seriously though, some big time charlie posters on NSC slate him and everyone else joins the bandwagon and does the same :sheep:
There are BETTER pundits out there, granted. However, there are countless other WORSE pundits.

Claridge is a dickhead. The only thing he knows about lower league football is what he's read in the sunday papers and the clubs' website. It's his job to know about the football league, he's paid to do it so he bloody well better know something.

Tedious twat IMHO

Claridge did well in his brief spell here and as far as I am aware, has always been 100% supportive of the club AND is knowledgable about it. Cannot understand this dislike of him, most bizarre.

He's alright. As has been said far worse pundits than him. Never understood the bad press he gets from many BHA fans. I respect his opinion

Come on, he is doing battle with Lee Dixon for the title of worst pundit on TV. He was a very watered down knowledge of the football league, a few clubs excepted. He talks about all 72 football league clubs like he knows what is going on at each of them, but he doesn't. Why on earth would he? No-one can be expected to know what is currently happening at every club, just don't talk with a pompous and arrogant assumption that you do. When Leroy Rosenior is the guest on the FLS, he sticks out like a sore thumb for me, because he talks with dignity and honesty, Claridge talks like he considers himself an expert when in fact, he's just talking on a very basic level about nothing of any particular interest. I've nothing against him personally, I'm sure he's a lovely bloke etc etc etc, but when it comes to football analysis, he is dreary, watered down and uninteresting. I speak only for myself, I just don't like him as a pundit.

IMO Alan Shearer is far and away the worst pundit on TV, he makes both Dixon and Claridge look like fountains of footballing wisdom.

I also think Claridge's delivery is very poor, he looks like he really struggles despite obviously having everything that he is going to say written down on bits of paper in front of him.

Before Gavin Peacock found god, he was easily the best pundit on TeeVee.

Blimey, I must be even more stupid than I realised. I LIKE Lee Dixon. He's the best BBC weekend pundit going in my opinion. But what do I know.

Obviously, you're more than entitled to your opinion. I know a lot of people who like Claridge, because he keeps it simple. I disagree with that perspective, though, because I think he always tries to be too complicated with his analysis, so he doesn't sound a bit thick. What I like about Shearer, for example, is that he is very humble in his opinions. I think he is, anyway. Claridge always seems to have an enormous chip on his shoulder, and he seems to constantly want to be right.

Anybody seen Dean Windass doing his live match reports. He always sounds like he might have had a frontal lobotomy.
I`m also going off the rest of Sky`s saturday afternoon show. Too much shouting in the background. Bring back Frank Bough I say.

He's alright, usually quite complimentary about us. As someone else said a lot of the sheep on NSC just agree with the opinion of a couple of the mafia instead of forming their own view. Much the same with all the Naylor bashing and the idea that Pardew hates our guts.

I just find he has very little bar the obvious to say on the football league show, nothing really incisive.

Bearing in mind almost ALL pundits are now charicatures of themselves now Claridge is alright. At least he gives us praise. (Also Dixon is pretty good).

Take the main 3 on the Beeb:

Hansen - Stereotype of miserable killjoy. Wildly OTT defensive criticisms;
Lawro - Stereotype of miserable full stop. Always with the crap dry put-down;
Shearer - No stereotype, just BORING.
