Grrr...

Came home from work today and discovered that a pristine copy of Charlton Athletic News had been posted through the letter box, so I had the dubious pleasure of seeing Ian Dowie's ugly mug staring up at me when I walked in the door.

But then I noticed the strapline running along the bottom: "Working in the community in SE London, Kent and East Sussex."

f*** off Charlton, you cunts and start fishing for fans on your own doorstep. I've heard about them ferrying fans from far and wide up to the Valley, but "serving the community in East Sussex"? f*** off.

They offer affordable Premiership (even if it is Charlton) football, we can't compete for the "floater" fan element. :nono:

Are the top brass at the Albion aware of the extent of this fan-thieving?

I know we have little cash to spend, but with 1000 season tickets unsold this season, shouldn't we be doing more to resolve this within our own community?

Charlton are selling Premiership season tickets to kids for £99 - how much is the cheapest season ticket at the Albion?

Charlton are no more than a business enterprise they are not a football club they are the most soulless "club" in the league. I am with you EL East Sussex is Brighton and the Clowns should f*** off and try and recruit their new "fans" in their own areas but Surprise, surprise no one in Greenwich wants to know because they have the good sense to follow other real clubs. Brighton fans do not let the Clowns do to you what they have done to Gillingham fight the thieving ****s with every sinew in your body and row them out of East Sussex.

Maybe the club should do more than the odd soccer school over that way?

Half the people on here are not attracted by the thought of eague one football so what are the chances that 7 and 8 year olds are?

But will they turn up because they want to see those teams beaten by the underdog and then end up supporting them?

???

Charlton have been doing this for years, they started touting in East Sussex when we played at Gillingham with posters in the stations at one stage.

I should hate them but I can't be arsed to

This is true but if 10 kids from East Sussex go to the valley that is ten less than is going to the Withdean isnt it?

The Albion don't help themselves though do they - back in the eoghties when i was at middle school Albion weren't a bad side but all the kids supported either Everton or Liverpool the two teams winning the title at the time even at Worthing High early nineties only myself and about 2 other kids in my year used to watch the Albion.

Even now the club hardly put themselves out to attract new blood.

Charlton are a football club with a marketing section which is exploiting the potential fans with attractive fixtures and cheap transport deals in a dry proper football stadium.

We are a football club in a shit league with a shit ground where you get soaked watching Oldham. Given the choice where is East Sussex floating fan going to go. Charlton even run coaches from Hastings to the valley for £5 return. We simply do not have the money or product or facilities to complete and will not until we invest in the team which cannot be done we are told until the f***ing stadium is built.

Archer and LDC rot in hell

Where I live in Kent I can get picked up by coach 100 yards from my home and watch a premiership match at the Valley for around £30 including transport. Alternatively i can drive for around 1 1/2 hours each way, and pay £25 + fuel + wear and tear on my motor to watch the Albion play some old crap 3rd division team. Ok, for me there's no contest, I follow the Albion and that's it, but to be honest any casual fans gonna take the easy and more tempting offer of Charlton for sure.

Now if the Albion provided a coach from near my house to the Withdean I'd certainly use it but how many others from round here would? Not many I suspect.
