Ackers - they are very much appreciated and we know how much effort goes into doing tis kind of thing. But as always, stats hide as much as they reveal ("lies, damned lies and statistics" and all that) so they are bound to cause debate - which is a good thing!

Like these stats. Particularly like the comparison between strikers, which highlights our other flaw that beyond Murray and Forster we are just plain toothless. Bit of a worry for Saturday.

In the same way that goalkeepers pride themselves on clean sheets as a success indicator surely the reverse - i.e. the number of goals conceded - is equally as valid an indicator of failure?

It's degrees of success though, isn't it. Strikers pride themselves on scoring goals, but can also contribute to a team's success by setting up his partner, or by supporting his defence, and still be credited with a great game and rightly be proud of his contribution.

Surely a goal keeper who keeps a clean sheet in a 1-0 game has contributed as much to the success of the team as the one who limited his opponents to only 3 goals in their team's 4-3 success? Especially if that 1-0 was on the back of his team dominating and so he only faced one shot and the 4-3 had 7 shots to deal with (i.e. one save in the game v four saves)

Great stats Acker, one thing regarding strikers, as well as the goals they score in games I'd also be interesed to know how many we score as a team in the games they play, as some strikers may play a role for the team in terms of creating chances and assisting other players to score which isn't purely shown by how many they score or indeed their assists.

OK, that may take a bit more work... I'll give it a go.

Okay. Just so long as we've established that they are pointless, that's fine.

Carry on...

No need to be so negative. These stats are not pointless at all, they give an indication of how things are progressing, and who is performing better that someone else, in general terms. If you don't like it, don't waste your time with "pointless" comments.

The RED line in the "Number of league games played" graph that depicts the last Wilkins season with club, just shows what a shambles we have been since he got the boot.

Sorry, but that is absolute nonsense, and is a perfect example of how stats are so misleading.
You really think that how many players you have on the pitch has no bearing on the number of goals conceded?

By extension of the same argument, El Abd was completely blameless for the defeat against MK Dons, where we were on top until he saw red for a reckless challenge, simply because it was 0-0 when he walked?

Didn't Walsall manage to keep a clean sheet and nick a 1-0 win against us with only 9 men thus proving that having a player or 2 sent off doesn't automatically mean you will conceed lots of goals so the reason for separating of the 2 keepers stats in these games is a valid one
