Glad I live in England then:laugh:

Joking aside that is a terrible situation but one would have thought with modern day technology and knowledge etc situations like that could be avoided or preperations made to minimise the effect.

Cue the email asking for voluntary donation to the disaster fund, and making fun of how poor they are "oop North". Anyone got a copy so we can pre-empt it? You know, the one which says that certain parts of <insert name of town here> have been improved, and that 50p will buy a necklace from Elizabeth Duke, etc, etc.

Thanks Bry, as it happens we have just had a text from his girlfriend saying he has finally got home, very wet and tired, but safe.

Yorkie, he was stuck in the area near Brightside, but all seems well now (not so sure i can say the same for his car though), thank god

if the dam bursts it'll hit the m1 and within 15 minute flood that whole residential area.
our niece had the to spend the night at work in sheffield. she couldn't get out the building, savile street and the roads all around were flooded so no chance for anyone to pick her up or aything.

they are cold, hungry and miserable. a helicopter and rescue people on boats were rescuing people but they are young, fit and able so were not a priority. not sure if she is still stuck.

I think that they said on the news last night that this month has been the wettest ever on record and it isn't finished yet! I had to drive through floods to get to work yesterday, but nothing near as serious as what has been on the TV, seems like we were lucky here.
