But we all know which party will bring Johnson down and it won't be Starmer's

But Labour can assist ... the more votes Boris loses the more the backbenchers will go ... hmmmm .... time for a change.

Back to the hairy-arse libertarian tory backbencher clown on the radio, earlier. He thinks a covid passport is an affront. When asked 'what about people who want to go in a pub and it is full of unvaccinated people' his reply was 'well, don't go, then'.

The libertarian solution for people at risk of death from Covid, frightened of people wandering about unvaccinated, is Stay At Home.

This is what we are up against.

The idea that labour should line up behind these disgraceful people, just to embarrass Boris, is grotesque.

Starmer has absolutely done the right thing, and done it absolutely the right way.

Marcus Fysh, who compared having covid passport to living in Nazi Germany.
Except he voted for Voter ID just a little while ago!

Make your mind up Mr Fysh.

Depressing. Starmer is no doubt playing the long (strategic) game (like any Barrister, he's gradually allowing Boris to tie himself in knots) but still think he missed an opportunity to twist the knife (whilst still supporting the booster push and other measures). He's far smarter than me though so................... Probably realises he doesn't need to finish Boris off, because his own people will.

I don't think he wants to finish Boris off. Labour's best chance of an election victory is against a Tory party still led by Johnson, not rejuvinated and refreshed by a new face who might sell a whole we're transforming things agenda to the electorate. Think he almost certainly wants Boris still in the chair at election time.

Thought of 3+ more years of that is even more depressing :nono::nono:

A change in Tory leadership is a brighter thought? Right now Johnson is a moderate on those benches, he’ll do whatever the wind of public opinion wants, there are plenty of others see him as too far left. At this point it may well be better the devil you know. A GE wouldn’t be forced by a change in leadership or resignation.

Lovely choices eh ?

Sir Steer Calmer

Yes, I too would love to see him leap over the benches and drop-kick Boris in the bollocks, but where would that get him? And us?

Another three years before the next general election, remember

I tuned in too late, as the Red Arrows performed loop the loops outside Starmer’s home.

Let's not forget his seranading by Dame Vera Lynn herself, out of retirement at 100 to do the honours.

(I'm slightly surprised that you find Starmer's rather dull controversy-free patriotic stance so risible. He was DPP in his previous life, not a member of the NUM. Dull, steady, measured, certainly patriotic. Plenty of us in labour are the same. It's the beardy weirdy militant lefties we find risible :bigwave: )

I did jury service a while back.....his approach reminds me very much of the CPS barrister. Calm, (apparently) friendly and measured over several days of questioning.................until he had everything he needed, then methodically ripped the defendant to absolute pieces. I do sometimes wonder if Starmer is just waiting for that moment...........

Think of him exercising his wrist over a TV game of beach volleyball. The explosion and subsequent release you anticipate may not be too far away.

On a practical note, I think he'll have to keep the wolf from the door until he can lay down some realistic, costed and palatable way forward should the party become elected.

I’m only joking, I quite like the bloke and politician, he’d be just as patriotic as those from the right.

The Union Jack did make me laugh though, only as his image advisors felt the need to match ministers in doing it.

Quite. We can but hope.

Windmilling. Metaphorically speaking of course.

I must confess I heard his address on the radio, and didn't see what props he'd been given on the telly.

Flags are an odd thing. When I grew up the George flag was the exclusive property of the NF. 'We' started taking it back at Euro96. I like to stick one in my window whenever England play in a tournament. It used to trigger comment. Not any more.

If Starmer still looks a bit weird sat next to the union flag that's....interesting. Oh well.

All the best

I did notice that he has a pretty good slogan for Boris’ leadership that he needs to get his whole party (and the media) repeating over and over again:

‘Worst possible person at the worst possible time’.

Sadly for our nation, it’s pretty much spot on. I wonder if Cummings came up with it originally and slung Labour a freebie?

I like ‘flag waiving’, the yanks (not just GOP voters), French and Italians are immensely proud of their iconic flags, they fly them everywhere.

We lagged behind, possibly caught between two historical stools of St George v Union Jack?
