Stadium planning question

I often wonder when I go to the Amex now whether the people who
objected to our planning application for so long, condemning us to
misery at the Withdean (and who I still despise in the true meaning of
the word) have looked at the stadium and secretly thought "what was
the fuss I made all about? I bet they do.

Never could figure out why the luvvies in Lewes objected as it's 4 miles away.

I think there is (or was) some silly little bit of land in the vicinity that they owned.
Or maybe they were just holding out for a big payout?

I wonder if the house values have dropped that much in Falmer village which was always what was at the root of a lot of concerns. Also, for those that were climbing to the top of the church spire & were upset that they'd have a view of the stadium, has it affected them so badly?

I always wonder about the ludicrous & pathetic 10,000 (yes it's true) that objected to the wonderful Sea Lane Cafe Goring & how many of those have since used it

My neighbour in Hove, is a Saints fan. I took him to the Amex last year, and to the Withdean the year before, to see the SCC games. He voted against the stadium

and you are still friends with him?!! How does that work? If my neighbour
had opposed the stadium I'd never talk to the bastard again.

What about the woman filming herself driving past the eye soar.

I wonder if her or her brother have been (I don't imagine there's a husband!)

He is a Saints fan, but clearly not a football fan.

I can't help wondering about the impact on the bat population, myself.

Well I've only been here for 4 years, so he voted against before I met him, and I don't want to fall out with a neighbour over it. I prefer to fall out with people on NSC, because it doesn't matter :D

Well he is a football fan, and he plays up at Falmer. He did tell me his reasons, but I can't remember - I think I was just in shock and trying not to be rude (not something that comes naturally to me).

Maybe he had suffered a bang on the head that day?

That definitely wasn't his excuse. He did say how he thought we should have a stadium, but thought there were better places for it, though it goes without saying that he didn't understand the problems with the other locations. I think he thought it was unfair on the residents of Falmer, or some such crap. I'm sure one day, when we're getting on well (maybe in the pub), I'll bring it up in a head-shaking kind of way.

Lewes only had a say because of roadworks at the roundabout which partially falls into Lewes' jurisdiction. Tossers.

Every time I drive to the Amex up and over ditching beacon, I pause near the car park at the top and think 'thank god the people who opposed the stadium never thought of producing an artist's impression of a bloody massive blot on the landscape in blue plastic and concrete'.

From that viewpoint, it is truly amazing permission was given.

I do the same drive yet think "how could anyone look at that magnificent stadium and not think it enhances the view 100%" - it is one of the special sites of Sussex now - breathtaking.

I am with you on that - when the stadium was going up I never failed getting a buzz when seeing it come into sight approaching from the A27 down the hill. Presumably before there was a marvellous view of all the random buildings, A27 and Falmer that is still there.

I drive Btn to Lewes nightly. When I feel a bit low I go via Woodingdean and down to Falmer. Always brings a tear to the eye at what we have achieved. It is a magnificent and beautiful sight.

Well the owners of the Falmer Farm shop (based at the traffic lights at Falmer Road/Village Way junction) are season ticket holders and rent out about 30 parking spaces on match days (all reserved, no spaces left to rent).
They are well chuffed with the stadium being there.:amex:
