Saint Geroge, that great English icon you are going to march for.

Saint George - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So he was a roman centurion, probably palestinian although he may have been lebanese or even syrian - some say he may have been Turkish in fact - who never set foot in England, or whatever it was called then as England didn't exist at the time of course.

Why do so many english 'nationalists' always have to hate other people and races in their celebration of their 'culture'. That's why people enjoy paddys day, it a CELEBRATION of Irishness, not a denigration of other people. And its why many people couldn't give a shit about the jingoistic idiocy that you refer to as a 'celebration' of St Georges day.
do one reading stockport, you rolled that one out last year:bla:

I'm proud to be (mostly) English, but I have no need or desire to march through the middle of anywhere to demonstrate that.

Nothing, but this march is not a 'march for england', it's a 'march for right wing, anti immigration politics' that some would like to pass off as some kind of family fun day to celebrate the many good things this country has to offer.

Are some people really so insecure about their identities that they need the validation of going on a march with other people to show just how English they supposedly are?

Funny how it's all the thickie right wingers who complain about immigrants taking their jobs. Learn to read and write properly and you might get a half decent job. Otherwise it's back to the competing with immigrants who are actually willing to take the shitty jobs and can't just sign on and sit at home watching Jeremy Kyle, drinking super strength lager all day.

You must have missed the post from our resident-complainee of scrounging immigrants... in the employment thread...!

Actually isn't the problem that the racist people who hark on about immigration and being English are the ones that make it shameful to be proud of England and flying a flag of St George.

If they just f***ed off perhaps we could be proud to be English

If people genuinely want to demonstrate their love of their country then fair enough. If on the other hand as the usual suspects tend to confirm this is just the far-right looking to parade their racist, fascist bullshit under the flag of patriotism then it is dishonest, cowardly and repellant.

Surely there are much better ways to spend St George's Day (or the weekend following) than marching down Queen's Road (In the Top 10 worst streets/roads/avenues in Brighton) and ending up in some grotty pub or is that not the point? How about about organising some street parties with no racist undertones?

Why is it only a very small minority that are worried about the whole 'celebrating England is racist'?

But would it not be much more fun to do something English and enjoyable than marching with some flags or have I missed the point? Surely, if it is a St George's Day celebration, then it would be advisable to celebrate as opposed to just marching and ending up in a pub? Plenty of people march from Brighton Station to a pub every day of the year.
