[Albion] Squad Rotation

It's really interesting that RDZ has used squad rotation so thoroughly. Quite often managers in the past have paid lip service to this, but that's clearly not the case here. I reckon it has cost us points this season (Webster is a good example of someone who needs 3 or 4 games before playing his best stuff), but it'll be exciting to see if we benefit in the second half of the season.

If we are on the coat tails of the top six and into the knockout stages by the end of 2023, it'll surely have been a price worth paying. I hope other teams start fielding players outside their first XI who are not up to speed, as injuries take affect. Meanwhile we won't really have that at all, as the whole squad has played a part from the first game of the season.

We have something like 24 players who have appeared in at least 6 of the 16 games this season. Extraordinary. No wonder squad morale is so high. A proper squad effort so far.

Unfortunately it still hasn't stopped the widespread injuries to crucial players!

We saw the benefit of why RDZ has been doing it last night when Dunk went off. Instead of a raw Igor untried in the RDZ system we had a player who had done minutes on the pitch and can now slot in easily. It’s only going to benefit us long term if we go deep in the Europa League and the FA Cup.

Compare that to the end of last season when we took some heavy defeats when we started to get injuries and fatigue and the players coming in weren’t quite up to speed. Thankfully it didn’t bite us, but we’ve learnt from it.

Unfortunately it still hasn't stopped the widespread injuries to crucial players!

It’s not just being done to avoid injury, it’s being done to make sure everyone is match sharp and the new players are up to speed with the way RDZ plays.

But it has enabled us to deal with those injuries.

Wait until teams like West Ham, Villa and Spurs have these injury woes. They'll start losing and all their fans will be throwing their hands in the air proclaiming they are so unlucky and how come it doesn't happen to other teams.

I believe this philosophy is here to stay, the loss of both MacAllister & Caicedo in the same transfer window is a big whole to fill and unfortunately due to Lallana's age, Moder's injury, Mwepu's heart condition and Gilmour's hassler none of the preferred replacements were up to speed. With Baleba, Dahoud and Hinshlewood eager to play we could have multiple replacements ready for action at any point.

None of the substitutions last night seemed to weaken us, so it seems to be effective
